Specifially, rowing machine and cross trainer.

Would like to look at something well engineered (same/similar to what you'd find in a gymn)

Is it always best to buy new? Is there money to be saved on s/hand?

Advice and recommendations please.

tia.

Probably pick something up FOC on Freecycle when people have realised they can get much more compact clothes horses from Argos.

That said, don't go for the cheapest. I've tried ultra cheap exercise bikes in the sub-£50 category and they are so rubbish compared to what you can buy if you pay £100-200. You don't need a £500-1000 gym equivalent, though. A well-constructed frame and smooth movement is all I require... something the cheap equipment noticeably lacks.

Of course, the usual advice of buying gym equipment that is no bigger than the loft entrace applies. hehe

Concept 2 are the best but aren't cheap, Check ebay and the concept 2 website for prices. On the plus side, they are like pre-recession spercars, in that they hold their value should you want to sell.

The only thing I will add is to ask the op his(?) height and weight.

At 6'4" I struggle with most home use gym equipmet; it's worth bearing in mind.

Try a recumbent exercise bicycle. Mine's got loads of extension left.
