After 48 hours of a cracking dose of suspected food poisoning, I now have agonising muscle cramps/burn mainly in my arms and legs. I am assuming this is due to the amount of fluid I have lost through the v + d, I have just suffered the torture of dioralyte and am drinking as much as I can but is there anything else the PH medics can advise?

Sprite, is supposed to be similar in nature to a 'proper' isotonic drink. Just let it go nearly flat and then have some salted crisps to go with it. smile

200ml Squash (any flavour, but NOT the 'low', 'diet' or 'no calorie' types)
800ml Water
1 Large pinch of salt.
isotonic drink that will replace everything include the odd http://www.berocca.co.uk/ and you should be fine

think it's getting low on potassium and/or magnesium that causes the cramps...

the Dioralyte thing should really help, gross though it is.

Comfort yourself with the thought that by rehydrating yourself at home you're avoiding getting a tube stuck up/down your nose (the ultimate tastebud bypass) in hospital.

Honey roasted cashews or peanuts worth a shot if you can face the thought.

Thank you, I was being threatened with the tube option hence why I had to suffer the dioralyte! Finally got rid of the cramps after 36 hours and what felt like about 80 gallons of fluid/salt mixtures! Just got to progress past the dry toast now....

note to self: never again buy a sausage roll from a dodgy garage in Cockfosters!
