Hi,
I've recently started doing bits of 'proper' impact exercise whereas before ive always done a fair bit of stuff, but its been relatively low impact. I'm finding that I'm suffering from a lot more mildly strained / achey muscles than previously and wondering what people typically do to ease these, or is it just a matter of waiting for the body to adapt to the new routine?

Nutrition/diet!

Apparantly some foods are better at aiding recovery than other. I'm guessing something fairly high in protein would be good.

Supplements might also be worth a look.

Sports massage is meant to help with all things muscle related, so that could also be an option!

Yoghurt has summat that helps dissipate lactic acid which should help get rid of the aches, or make it less severe anyways.

Hi,

I use L-Glutamine from myprotein.co.uk three times a day. It does work, but since I've started cutting (i.e. eating less to get more definition) I've started to get more achey than before. I still have less aches than before, but more than when I was eating a lot. I think zinc and magnesium are also supposed to be good in aiding recovery.

You were right in your first post.

The body takes time to adapt to a shock like a new training regime.

Give it time and don't be afraid to rest when your body tells you to.

Good luck with the new you!

Are you warming up and stretching adequately before you start?

I know that stretching has actually been proven to not reduce the risk of damaging muscles etc, but it has been shown to increase recovery speed if you do damage something.

Ibuprofen is meant to help if taken before and after exercise (although always with food). Other than that, yes drinking plenty, but try sleeping longer as well, the body needs time to rebuild
