I stopped smoking a week ago and am now starting to wake up with a sore throat and phlegm at the back of my throat. Is this normal as my body gets rid of the crap in my lungs? It clears up at some point in the morning and I'm back to normal again.

Thanks,

Mark

Yes it is normal however I didn't get a sore throat so I'm not sure if that is related?

When I wake up the phlegm is sat at the back of my throat so I guess it's irritating it to a degree.

Yes its your cilia being able to grow back, previously they were burnt away with the smoke, so unable to filter the gash up your trachea (windpipe) and away from your lungs - hence the smokers cough. Now they are growing back they can work again but for a few weeks you may find you cough more, aiding the process.
I would guess that the sore throat is like any major lifestyle change, your body has become so used to things, its takes a while to adapt.
