Hi Folks,

My wife is after a cross trainer to put into our small home gym.

I know nothing about them...

Can anyone recommend any good brands?

What sort of money do I need to be spending to get something reasonable for home use?

Many thanks

I think you can't go wrong with something like this.

I tried a Matrix at a fitness show last year and was just fantastic. Not the same budget though.

I bought one from Amazon in the new year. The one I got is Horizon Andes 308 Elliptical. Cost £350 but is a superb piece of kit but I saw it for sale with everyone else for over £650 and even found places that rented the same model out as a business so it must be pretty good.

Incidentally Amazon now have it for sale at £444.65 with delivery extra so I reckon I got a bargain. Woo Hoo. Just need to use it more really!

Is it one of those things (like say, mountain bikes) where you need to spend at least £300 or whatever to get something safe or well made?

cheers

Even the cheapest price above to purchase a cross trainer outright would cover my gym membership for 20 months...
I know nothing about cross trainers themselves but I do know that they are great for those of us who carry a bit of weight and struggle with impact issues when it comes to running.

I hear what you're saying re cost v gym membership bazking69, but we have 2 little kids, and it would be a right kerfuffle to try and get a 'sitter everytime my wife and I wanted to go to the gym together. And this exercise thing is a 'together' thing we've decided! Hence the home gym...

cheers

Jake, where are you in the country?

I have one sitting in my garage that had about 2 months use in a gym.

Would be nice and cheap.

I bet ebay is littered with them, mostly with very little use and one careful owner who paid top dollar for it and never used it.

thanks for the offer Paoloh, but not really what I'm after...

my sister bought one off ebay as it goes, and the damn thing broke very expensively a week after she got it... bad luck though I s'pose...

We bought a really good one from John Lewis (own brand) for 340 quid - well recommended.
