Does anyone have any recommendations for a new weight bench, mine is getting a bit wobbly with the amount of weight I am lifting these days, I'm not sure it can take much more.

I have a whole room set aside so space is not a problem but it will have to take around 110-120kg of weight plus me.

Any links to good cheap websites selling them would be appreciated.

I have one of these. I'm 85K and bench 100-110K and it doesn't move. Can't incline however.

That looks a bit more sturdy, I'd like to do incline hopefully with some sort of rack as I do a lot of weights alone (I know) I can always shout downstairs if need be wink

Thanks for the link, will browse the shop.

The problem with the other york benchs that incline is that they carry a max of 200K. I think you'll struggle to get some that can support you and your lift!

Go on, treat yourself:

This is looking good

Not sure I'd use all of this but it's also good.

Both will give me an extra 50kg to play with.

Thanks.

I think the "Half Smith Olympic System" seems good value.

I'd be wary of those 'peck deck' style add ons on the other machine, they are normally a bit on the flimsy side unless you pay a lot more.

An Extra 50k is a huge increase really- will you need it?

Not sure I would ever need it, I am just worried the amount my present bench sways when I drop the weights back on after benching.

That is never a good sign. I have to be honest, I think I got to the stage where I realised I just couldn't progress any more at home and joined a gym. If thats not your cup of tea, I was just having a look on ebay and this look brilliant

Why are we getting links for smith machines and free benches?

Totally different, which do you want?

A normal bench is going to be much more beneficial than a smith machine.

Maybe not. The OP doesn't have someone to spot him and a smith will allow you to hook off the weight when you hit failure.

It also offers an incline and is more stable then the benches of comparative price.

However, In most scenarios an Olympic bench is better.

Just out of interest Okgo what do you bench and what is your experience based on? Please don't take that as an insult, I'm just asking.

I am not a great bencher although I can do 100 KG without too many issues. I am 90kg, but have rather long arms, making it not my best exercise.

I actually prefer dumbells for the bench press, the reason I don't like the flat bar or the smith are very similar they do not build stabilising muscles( as much as say dumbells would), and can lead to one arm doing more work than the other. Plus flat bar does my wrists in.

I use a gym, its far easier, and I get the use of tens of thousands of pounds worth of equipment for £40 a month.

I think benching anything over 85-90Kg is heavy so nice one for doing the magic tonne (I'm not being sarcastic) I too just use a gym and love chest flys with dumb bells. My gym only goes up to 30KG on the dumb bells so using bar is the only way to go heavy.

Its the angle my wrist is put at, not the lack of support I feel...

They have 48KG dumbells at mine so its all good. But the latest benches they have bought in are quite crap in that they move about if you are not dead level. Cheap st. So I go on the olympic bench and use the bells.

Yes I'd be more interested in something I could lock off on an incline, going to the gym is not an option for a number of reasons, well at least not regularly.

I'm 5'9" and a whisker under 15 stone (no I can't scratch my back hehe )benching 110-120kg but it's getting light and my bench is starting to sound like a wooden ship creaking and swaying.

Then I would stop right there with your old bench - get another... quickly!

Seriously, it's just not worth taking the risk.

I've got one of these from Hoist:

http://www.sport-tiedje.com/hoist/hantelbaenke/hf4...

Bloody brillant and solid and not too expensive. I use it with one of their commercial benches which is also very solid. Talking of solid, Bodysolid do something very similar for a similar price here:

http://www.premiersportsandfitness.co.uk/body-soli...

ETA Note that they both have rackout ears to avoid those embarassing chest crushing moments...
