Hoping someone can give me a bit of advice.
About 3 weeks ago I saw the trainer at my gym who changed my program and increased the weights I was using on all the machines I use by at least 50%. All was going well as TBH I had been being rather lazy and not increasing weights.
However, about 10 days ago, I must have hurt myself on one of the machines as my shoulder is now somewhat painful. I didn't notice until the next day but since then it hasn't got a great deal better and now hurts when I do things like dry myself with a towel. I have continued going to the gym but only doing CV and leg work and had hoped after 10 days it would have got better.
Any ideas or suggestions welcomed ?

I'd definitely try a hot bath or shower, or a hot (not scolding) wet flannel or towel.
Take some anti flams if you have some and rub some deep heat on the area.
The heat to the area will stimulate blood flow and help the healing process. You will need to do this quite often though and not just a once off.

What kind of pain is it ? I had a very deep gnawing pain in my shoulder last year, the kind of pain that just makes you want to hang your arm like a piece of limp celery. Certain small and seemingly insignificant movements made it worse. It lasted for nearly a month. I believe it was a rotator cuff injury, caused by, believe it or not, polishing the car !. The repetitive motion while doing the roof (and pressing down) was alien to my poor muscles and they ached and ached.
A doc I work with (God bless you Kim) is into alternative medicine, and she gave me one session of acupuncture. She put several needles so far into my joint I thought I was going to st, painless at first then really sore, but apparently this focusses the point of injury so your own bodies anti-inflammatory processes are targeted there.
The next day I was completely pain free, and not had any bother since.

It's at the top of my arm next to my shoulder if that makes sense.
I think I did using the machine where you sit down, put your arms out the side and then pull the bar things forward (sorry don't know the name )
Will try a hot flannel shortly, have taken plenty of (hot) showers since to no avail...........it is easing slightly but not much.

I have a similar problem at the moment. My pyshio has done some trigger pointing and deep massage on it, turns out i also had and inflammed bicep tendon with runs along the channel in your bone on the top of your shoulder.
Im not saying thats what you have, but ive had one session with the physio and im almost back to normal. One more should do the trick. Anyway onto your problem..
Try heating the muscle in question with a hot water bottle wrapped in a tea towel for 10 mins, do sonme gentle stretching, only just touch pain dont go into it, then ice massage.
Do this by getting a polystyrene cup (£1 for 40 from local £ shop) fill with water and freeze overnight. When you have done your stretching get the cup and cut about 1 inch away form the top of the cup all the way around, so it sort of looks like a big lip stick tube!
Then rub over the affected area in little circular motions, maximum of 10 mins no more.
Ive been training for 8 years now nearly and the one thing i have learnt is dont bother with your doctor at first, go to see a sports physio. Everytime ive been the doctors all they do is give you anti-inflamitories and say dont train for 2 weeks.
Find a good physio, they are worth thier weight in gold!

Thanks for the advice. Tried the hot water bottle for 2 hours last night and this morning it seems to hurt less but more.........less in that the pain is not as sharp, but more in that it is there more constantly, but I seem to have more movement before the sharper pain kicks in so I think i's helping at least.
Will give it another try and if not find a physio nearby and see what they can do.....
