Its been nearly a decade since I made the switch from electric to a wet shave

currently using a gillette superturbo battery mega loadsa blades doodah, and apart from the f**king stupid naming policy the blades dont last too long and they are bloody expensive.

Having a wet shave every morning is starting to get on my tits - im sitting in work this morning with not so designer stubble as I could not be arsed.

So my question is, have electric shavers got any better? does anyone use one?

or would I be better investing in a "proper" razor?

I've never found an electric shaver that does the job properly. I do have dark stubble though and have to wet shave every day.

Its a pain in the arse. (Well, more the face than anywhere else).

not had a shaving thread on here for ages! smile

A good (i.e expensive) electric shaver will do a half decent job and get rid of visible stubble, it wont be babies bottom smooth and the missus will probably still complain (if she's not a fan of stubble).

You could always try a bear trimmer and go with "proper" designer stubble..

I've always used an electric shaver. Not a even a very expensive one either (think it cost me £40). Seems to do the job smile. I can't be arsed to do a full wet shave every morning, along with putting in contact lenses, brushing my teeth etc

electric shavers seem crap and pull the hair from my face, wet shavers give me a rash so I go for the beard trimmer... designer stubble all the way.. do it

I use a cheap and nasty leccy shaver Tues-Fri morning, a good wet shave Monday morning...and a weekend of no shaving....

although am considering upgrading to a named posh leccy shaver and doing away with Monday routine...

The OH prefers the clean shaven look, and I feel better going to work like that....

I dont mind having a wet shave - bit sad but with a decent sharp blade I quite enjoy it - but lately a succession of sh*tty blunt within a shave or two blades has left me thinking an electric would be far handier.

I use electric, comes from shift work and being getting ready at odd times with no fixed routine and the possibility of two shave in 24 hours it made sense.

I upgraded to one of the Braun models with the cleaning pod. No razor rash, decent shave, no mess and quick.

10/10 on the "real man" scale.....but they look a tad scary....do you use one?

I would imagine the learning process would be painful

I dont use one but hate doing wet shave and getting the blade clogged with hair and then tearing it out of my face.... Electric razor just doesnt work for me and those stupid wet razors with the safety bars do nothing but make it easier to clog up with hair.

I just need to jump in 2 footed and give a cut throat a try.

I can't remember the last time I shaved. I just let it grow for a few weeks, then trim it back with clippers to a number 1.

Saves time in the morning.

I've recently started wet shaving occasionally having used a decent Phillips floating rotary head electric for years.

Wet shaving is a nice "occasion" but it's a real faff. The electric is "good enough" so that's what I use most of the time, especially on work days.

Get a good electric razor. I use a Braun 76something and it's lasted for 5 years with no fuss. Has a cleaning/charging station and comes up like new each charge. I need to shave everyday too so it gets serious use!

Safety razors are fine - and cheap - but honestly it's a lottery as to whether you'll cut a huge hole in your face just before your important dinner party/date/job interview etc..

Good god man that's £42.95 for a razor!! yikes

All though I haven't used an electric razor for years, they always used to give me dry skin. I now use a simple Gillette twin blade thing which is cheap & so are the blades, they don't clog & the blades seem to last for long enough.

Any more than two blades seem to block up constantly & I can never get that bit under my nose.

Masses of positive reviews for that Merkur thing via the link above...but typically I'm more concerned with the minority view right at the bottom of the page...refutting the glowing reviews...???
