Best contraception?
Discussion
What do you think is the best method of contraception?
The missus tried the pill but it made her ill, I know there are different kinds but its put her off them completely. What are the implant and injection like? Any experiences?
And before anyone suggests it, I'm not giving up sex, I like it too much

The injections are very effective and convenient. They last for 3 months and antibiotics dont affect the ones like Depoprevera.
Having said that, Depo-Provera can cause bone density loss which can lead to osteoporosis and not all GPs will talk about this with you, so do some research.http://www.nih.gov/news/pr/sep2002/nichd-06.htm

Best discuss with GP though, different methods suit different people, and most come with a risk of side effects.

Best advice ETA - but the same is true for ANY homonal contraception that stops menstruation, not just Depo-Provera. Plus, one factor often forgotten is that these progesterone-only methods also carry a slight increase in thrombosis risk - nowhere near as much as oestrogens, but it's there.

+1, if you are sure you have completed your family, if not I would recommend the Mirena coil, lasts for 5 years, and your body thinks you are already pregnant so you get bigger boobs and no periods.
This is the best peice of advice that PH has ever imparted (as my wife is going to have a coil fitted on Wednesday and has little tits - i will be sharing this sage counsel) mybrainhurts said:

Where's my mousetrap pic gone...?
Was it deemed inappropriate...?
Yes.Was it deemed inappropriate...?
Does that mean NO HUMOUR here, or was this a one-off rejection?
If the latter, why..?
It's O.K. to post daft and flippant comments on certain threads, but it is disrespectful to post stuff in reply to a fellow member's genuine and serious question. Part of our moderating duties is to allow all areas of the site to flow, and it isn't always a good idea to butt in with humorous asides when people want to get information and answers to serious questions. Humour, like everything else has it's time and place. As I mentioned it's about respect for other site members. (I was going to end by saying I hope you see where I'm coming from, but that's probably not right for this thread either)
What rot, who says there is no place for humour in medical matters.
To the OP, get her to the GP and have a chat, there are lot's of different pills and another might be alright for her. My Mrs had one which made her spotty and put on weight. Needless to say she stopped that one quick smart, however the one she uses now is absolutely fine and causes no problems.
On the other hand you could always do like me and have chemotherapy. That stops the little bu**ers from swimming.
If that seems a bit over the top, try this.
