So now they're planning on putting images on fag packets

Now I'm no smoker, so whatever they do doesn't effect me, but does anyone else just see this as typical from this government? If someone wants to smoke then let them, it's their choice. Why don't we put images of fat people on ...say for example Mcdonalds boxes?

Seen this sort of approach in a few countries already. Just the gubberment rehashing someone elses ideas. But if it stops people starting all the better I suppose, and I say that as a smoker smile

No need, you're surrounded by them in the queue.

Do they think people do not read, or have not heard about the dangers?

I personally always try to avoid the packs with 'smoking kills' or 'smoking causes impotence'.

If the girl serving me gives me one of those I always ask for it to be swapped with a 'smoking when pregnant harms you baby' pack.

I am not pregnant and never intend to be.

Come on Brown, grow some balls. If you think smoking is so bad simply ban it. Oh thats right, you don't actually want people to stop do you. You want people to die earlier and pay more tax. fking hipocrite.

Ho hum, I'll just continue to take what works out as a free week abroad every few months to stock up.

FFS find something better to do than nit pick at peoples spelling. Its still perfectly readable.

This picture thing has been around here in Aus for ages...couldnt care less really as I dont smoke anymore but I did object to the adverts on the TV all the time. If someone wants to smoke thats fine they can and they should accept the risks with it so why should I be subjected to pictures of peoples rotting mouths?!?!

Well, I'm no marketing guru, but they're not going to sell many packs with pictures like that on them, are they?

I would have thought fast cars, fit birds and maybe speedboats or something would prove much more popular.

Tranquilizer darts please! hehe I can sympathise with Tunku though.

Why do they have to continue to ruin smoking for those of us who just enjoy the odd cigarette in a responsible way? frown Perhaps I'll go in with city boys and start a coke habit. It seems more socially acceptable, better value for money etc. Sure it probably ends up in criminal hands but so does a lot of EU funding by the looks of it (12th year running that the auditor has refused to sign off on EU books IRRC wink).

Timmy is right, drugs and prostitution are the righ business to be in if your looking at running a franchise. Just don't get caught. smile

hehe

Also as a smoker it wont bother me in the slightest

I do wonder how they're planning to get that level of detail into a 5x3cm picture. Will it be colour? If so, who's paying for the extra printing? All fag packet warnings are B+W as far as I'm aware, it'll no doubt come out like some dodgy photoshop

Pointless, FFS they have been called coffin nails for years dont they think people know what they do by now?
What next? Are they going to follow up this campaign by having pictures of fat people on macdonald's wrappers?

It would not matter what they put on the front back or sides of a packet they will still sell them, smokers are well aware of the dangers and have been for years ,if it puts off someone starting then great but I can not see it make anyone quit.
