It looks like I’ll be going in for this op shortly, anybody been through it? My biggest concern is recovery time as I’ve got a couple of trips planned early next year, the surgeon (who’s supposed to be very good) is suggesting 6-8 weeks, is this realistic?
TIA

Andrew Miller (in Cardiff / Newport), he’s since responded and thinks 6 weeks should leave me in good fettle for our holiday.

Had arthroscopy/meniscectomy for a bucket handle tear in my left knee in Nov 2020. Walked out of the hospital on crutches the same day as the op, down to one crutch within a few days. Some physio and following their advice I d say I was fully mobile again within 4-6 weeks.

Still get the odd twinge and haven t been able to play squash since but otherwise pretty good.

Right knee now needs the same - just wading through the NHS system

Proposed Microfracture is wholly different rehab, with restricted weight bearing

Doc knows best, mine was purely a meniscus injury/fix.

I think I had an appointment with Mr Miller. Is he the one I would describe as a Welsh Reacher?

I tore my meniscus during Covid and had keyhole surgery to sort it, was in and out same day.
Had the surgery in November, by end of January I was cleared to go back to all activities I was doing before the injury. My Taekwondo instructors were a bit more cautious than my surgeon and insisted on a signed GP letter before they let me back, so it was another month or so before I started back training.

I still get the odd twinge, sometimes the surgery site becomes a bit painful for no reason, but is usually completely fine the next day.

That’s him, great description (I’ll mention it when I see him) smile
