I've had this for most of my life but in recent years it's got much worse and is having a profound effect on my wellbeing - loss of sleep being the main problem but just a persistent feeling of being unewell - brain fog, PND, low grade fever, blurred vision in one side and headaches. Sometimes it will develop into full blown sinusitis.

I'm on a maintenance does of Mometasone spray but it seems to reduce in effect over time. It does seem to be more on one side that the other - I have nasal polyps on the worst affected side.

GP doesn't seem to be too bothered but I don't think he realises what a misery this can make your life. On the odd day when it does improve (for reasons I can't fathom) I feel so much better.

Any suggestions? I've recently heard about Tumeric (tea) which seems to be hailed as a wonder 'cure all', any other suffers tried it?

Ask your GP if they're willing to prescribe Dymista or Ryaltris, these are suitable for your severe, ongoing condition and contain a corticosteroid and an antihistamine.

Mometasone spray is a corticosteroid medication as far as I'm aware

I've also had it for 40 + years and Pirinase nasal spray has made it bearable for the last 20. From a point where I couldn't breath through my nose at all at,.I now breathe (mostly) normally although any cold type infection causes a flare-up..

Correct. The ones I've suggested have antihistamine in too.

I would suggest a few leftfield options, as antihistamines and steroids only go so far.

Firstly, and the most obvious one, dust / dust mites. Is your house carpeted, does it get cleaned often with a vacuum with filters?
It has also been very dry because of the cold weather - around 30% humidity. How do I know, I have a humidity meter.
Suggest investing in a humidifier - as this can make quite a big difference to breathing - even on for a few hours.
Other suggestions, you may have a dietary intolerance that is causing the sinusitis.

Can Pirinase spray be taken long term like that, I’ve used it but it said not to use for longer than a month. It really helps my symptoms

I think I might have started getting this to some extent in recent years. During the day it's fine, but at night my nasal passages close up when I lay down? It varies in severity, and when I was on holiday I don't think it got much better (which is apparently one hint as to whether it's something in your home).

I found that nasal strips help a lot, I get them off AliExpress, they are 1/10th the price of Breathe Right ones and work just as well.

I went to the GP and she suggested Beconase, and then prescribed mometasone, neither seem to do anything. It's currently not a huge problem, but I guess might get worse in time!

edit: These are the strips, $7 for 100: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007167733514.h...

I would go back to your doctor and change medication.
Your body gets used to living with one drug if its taken long term and the drug becomes less effective.
Changing to a new drug could help.

Hi,

My AR became so debilitating several years ago that I sought help privately.
The doctor prescribed Fexofenadine antihistamine and Avamys spray.

Tree pollen, pets, horses, dust- you name it, I'd suffer.

I no longer have an issue.

Update - I stopped using Mometasone on Sunday, dropped my morning coffee, stopped any alcohol and started taking Turmeric tea twice a day.

It has genuinely made a very noticeable difference - much to my surprise as I am a died in the wool cynic on 'alternative' therapies. I would say by today I have an 80% improvement and I slept better last night than I have done for years.

I use fresh turmeric and ginger with pepper corns grind it up in a pestle and brew for 3 minutes, then serve with a twist of lemon and a spoon of honey. Must be diaretic as well as I've been pissing like a horse for two days!

...make of that what you will but it really does seem to be working, to my great surpise

I have this and was prescribed dymista whcih worked but after time led to nose bleeds and was clearly damaging the nasal membrane. So i switched to fexofenadine tablets which also worked but I was getting very lethargic. It's a pain!

Not sure what the medical advice is (its over the counter) but I've used it for well over 20 years without any side effects so far.
