I have just experienced the almost dismissive attitude to back pain by medics
It started with attacks of crushing pain in my lower back and legs , various visits to my GP and A&E lead to more and more powerful pain killers, recommendations for physio (useless and painful)

It finally came to a head , when I was in A&E waiting yet another consultation , and I passed out due to pain ,so put on a trolley and at last taken seriously ,after 2 weeks of xrays and MRI scans ( which were complicated by me having a pacemaker and needing a particular type of scanner ) and 4 shots of morphine a day , a diagnosis of degradation of discs and spine , fortunately not affecting spinal cord, but damage to nerves supplying my lower body
.
The nerve damage has not caused any paralysis but had weakened lower muscles etc leaving me unsteady and needing a zimmer for support and a life time of a nerve block/pain killer .
What is most painful , for the time being I can’t get behind the wheel due to the drug regime and continuing low level back pain / I can get in the family Karoq , but not a chance the MX5.
All this over a period of about 5 weeks , before which I had just had a supercar driving day at Brands Hatch .

Nothing worse than back pain.

Hopefully things will improve and you will be back in the MX5 before too long.

I have one, and they are not the easiest thing to get in and out of if you have mobility problems.

Have you tried a neoprene back support? They can help in my experience used for an hour or so.

Good luck.

Thanks for good wishes
Its early days dealing with this, so looking into various treatments , at present I am using a Tens machine , don’t know if the machine is just snake oil but at least the tingles are pleasant .I was given loads of exercises to do but many do not take into consideration my limited mobility at present some require laying on the floor If I do that I will be stranded like a tortoise , Leaving my wife to turn me over and pick me up , I will have to work up to them.
I have been promised Occupational therapy ,still waiting on that, Home help still waiting on that ! TBH I dont need either

Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD) is absolutely fking awful. It doesn't get better, and there is no cure. I have good days/weeks and bad days/weeks. The only thing you can try and do is stay mobile (within pain parameters). Certain exercises will certainly help and do no harm, but it's the pain is always hiding in there somewhere. The problem with DDD is the deterioration of disc and facet space which the nerves need - hence over time it only gets worse. A disc fusion used to be an option but the latest evidence is very much against this. I don't think theres much in the space of future (latest treatments) to look forward to either. The pain at times will be that bad that if you had a gun in your hand you would shoot yourself. Try to keep mobile as sitting/lying for long periods speeds up the degeneration. Edited to add - and best of luck.
