Exercise bike vs treadmill. Question.
Discussion
Afternoon all.
I currently have an exercise bike and am loving it. I also enjoy walking but I can see that stopping when the weather gets bad, come the winter.
So am looking to add a tread at some point this summer.
Due to the cost, would I see any different benefit rather than just using the bike ?
Are there any other benefits to adding a tread ?
I’m on a weight loss purge, and get fit again. I’ve started following a weight and cardio program along side the bike and trying to do sit ups to loose then belly. I can’t for the life of me do press-ups.
What benifits over the bike will I see with a tread mill, using it as a walking tool, and maybe try some running later on in my progress?
Any advise is welcomed.
Thank you

I find it easier to do other stuff while on a bike. Can watch something on the tablet while browsing FB on your phone. Suddenly, you've been cycling for 5 hours and burnt a s
t ton of cals. Can even do work on the tablet and phone if you really feel that way. (Walking/running is too much movement to work at any acceptable rate or watch something on the screen.)
Oh, and as you say, even if it rains or the weather is just too crap or it's just too hot, you can still carry on.

I bought a treadmill for when the weather is bad, I've used it about 5 times this last year because so long as it's not throwing it down I'd rather walk outside I've discovered.
But it was only £30 off Facebook marketplace so it can sit in the garage.
I also prefer using my exercise bike.
As for losing your belly with sit ups,it ain't going to happen, you might strengthen your stomach muscles but you won't lose any fat.....fat spot reduction is not a thing anyway.
You burn very few calories by exercising, unless you're doing loads of strenuous cardio every day, diet is the key

Different muscle groups and a different level of cardio, running you should be able to get your heart rate higher.
Plus if you're trying to lose weight you can exercise more days of the week by say doing 2 runs and 2 bikes then a strength and conditioning session on another 2 days. You wouldn't see as much benefit as cycling say 4 days over 2 runs and 2 bikes. And running will burn more calories per hour.
Now you just need a swimming pool and then you can do a home triathlon.

A treadmill would work you harder because of the impact
A treadmill is weight bearing, an exercise bike is not. A treadmill will strengthen your ankles knees and hips. You will become more aerobically fit on an exercise bike if that's the comparison you offer, but running on a treadmill offers an even better mix of aerobic fitness (also burns more cals) and is weight bearing. Probably the best compromise, as others have noted, would be some brisk walks outdoors. You won’t get more aerobically fit doing one thing vs another there is no ‘different level’ - utter nonsense. You’ll get fitter in that sport, you also won’t have some secret max heart rate for running vs cycling, it’s purely that most people cannot push themselves as hard on a bike as they can running - because you can’t slack off when running. But when you’re trained in cycling you can make a workout just as hard as anything you could do on foot.
That said given there is impact in running it will give a more rounded workout on your muscles, core and joints, but also much more likely to get injured/do less exercise overall when running.
Consider perhaps a rowing machine as a nice go between, no impact but more full body than cycling and less likely to injure/more repeatable than running for most people.

If you want exercise to help lose weight/fat, you want to be doing lots of cardio, and a bit of strength... IMHO. And yes, look at diet too.
As mentioned above a rower is a good way of doing that, as is an exercise bike, or treadmill. Get on them, get your HR up and keep it up... that's really all there is to it.
As to which, the rower and bike are non-impact, so much less chance of injuring joints and things like plantar fasciitis. But any of them will do the job. Go with which works best for you, and you prefer, because you'll be spending a fair chunk of time on them.
My personal view... I had all 3 for a while, but the treadmill got very little use, so went. Now do 30mins a day on bike and rower (a ratio of 2 rowing to 1 bike) during the week. I use Apple Fitness+ to pass the time. At the weekend with weather like this I'll get out for a ride (20-25 miles), or play Badminton with the kid (40mins of getting my arse kicked)... both use and help the cardio.
