My teeth are stained through decades of coffee drinking.

Over the counter teeth whitening treatments don’t do anything, and I’d like to get my teeth looking a bit whiter - not bright white, just not sandy brown.

Anyone had this done recently and what did you pay? Seems to be around £500 near me ( east lancs), but that just gives you the teeth moulds and the liquid, then you do it yourself at home.

Any tips…apart from not drinking coffee in the first place.

I go to a private dentist. They do the at home tray kids for £195 so 500 notes seems excessive.

I've not tried it though so no idea how good it is.

Depending on the quality of the trays I would say anything between £200-350 is fair. Anything more is marketing and works the same. But I know people charging £700 for what has a very low cost to them…

If you get it done post the before and after.

I have the same issue. I drink way too much strong (almost black) coffee. I've used whitening toothpaste, and some whitening strips and it's made zero difference.

I absolutely do not want celeb white teeth, I just want them to look better than they do now.

I paid £200 in 2022 for trays made and a few tubes of bleach in South Wales.

I got a Boutique teeth whitening kit from my Dentist for £250 back in 2022. Made a good difference. I keep on top of them using a tube every half year. Wish I'd whitened them years before.

basically what the dentist will do but get it yourself a hell of a lot cheaper. although their custom trays prices have went up a fair bit.

the custom trays are good and get whatever strength peroxide you want.

Haven't seen your teeth but

A trip to the hygienist to get rid of most of the stains circa £70.

Teeth whitening strips - from the USA but available online for about £50.

See how that goes....

Find a dentist first and foremost that can perform "airflow". Its basically sand blasting of your teeth to remove stains and build up. You'd be amazed at what the outcome of that is. As mentioned above its c~ £70, takes about 15 minutes at worst and is painless.

Regarding teeth whitening, whilst I can't point you into a direct brand/company. You want to be looking for a moulded pallet that fits your teeth. This should be done bespoke by a dentist, not one of these DIY kits. Whitening comes from peroxide, and AFAIK 6% is the strongest you can buy. You dot a small piece about the size of half an uncooked grain of rice on each of the teeth moulds and then fit the mould to your teeth. Usually leave it for 2 hours.

Its recommended to brush your teeth, wait 30 minutes, apply the bleach, wait 2 hours, then clean your teeth again straight after. Its pretty good to prevent you eating/drinking rubbish before bed too. 2 weeks worth of that and you'll be about set. Rinse and repeat every 6 months usually.

Sensitivity can be a problem if you're using bleach, which as an adult you should be able to understand your body and know when enough is enough and to knock it on the head for a few days.

I received some whitening - as above, just after my invisalign treatment ended. My teeth weren't stained really, but I have noticed a difference for sure.
Whilst it hasn't to me, I was told by my dentist that the bleach taste can make people gip a little, so might take some getting used to if you're one of the afflicted biggrin

Hope thats some use!

Thanks, I’ll give this a try. My wife already has the peroxides for her teeth, so just getting the moulds is worth a try.

Never heard of Airflow so thank you. There is a clinic that does this only 10 minutes away. Might give a try before I try the peroxide.

Quite a few of those bleaches are in excess of the strength Dentists are allowed to prescribe in the UK and the EU.

Obviously some have no issues with these products.
However some do and I certainly have extracted teeth for people who have given themselves pain issues due to the incorrect product being used and also them not being suitably healthy to have there teeth bleached.

One root canal or lost tooth could easily cost more than the saving you make.

Are there downsides to this? I have what I optimistically refer to as typically English teeth. Not keen on fluorescent white but probably should get them cleaned up.

However I’ve never had any issues or fillings etc and am fairly sceptical of the dentist, so will it damage my enamel or anything similar.
