At my age 63 I’m past the stage of being embarrassed ( who am I trying to convince ) , it started a month ago & has not got any better , I’ve read a bit , but as I’ve prostrate cancer , had part of kidney took away ( 75% ) , diabetic ( type 2 ) , heart murmur / i regular heart beat , high blood pressure & bad circulation it could be 100 different things causing it , tried certain thing , lots of walking to get blood pumping ( don’t laugh at the back ) , sleeping longer , but no change .
So where now , is there something else I could try , or is the doctor the answer , anyone gone through this , if so what were the suggestions / tests etc he suggested ? .
Thankyou

Do you get morning wood? This helps work out if it’s physical or psychological

Check what the side effects show for the medication you are on as that can be a factor. GP will likely then look to change or prescribe viagra in the short term, especially if he thinks stress related etc. After that you can go with Dr Fox and buy online.

Some statins can cause ED and the blue pill is part of the journey, as required, as we age.

This. Are you on beta-blockers for your AF? That would be a likely cause.

Assuming you've been on the meds for a while and the ED only started a month ago I'd look elsewhere for a possible cause. ED can be just as much psychological as physical. How's your libido? I mean do you think sexual thoughts about someone, do the thoughts excite you normally, and do/did you have an active sex life?

Dead easy to get meds such as Viagra etc by ordering online from Boots, Lloyds Chemist etc. Have it delivered to you or to a local store for pick up. Usually a bit of an online questionnaire to complete first. So no need to even have to talk to anyone to get it.

Viagra lasts a few hours, Cialis lasts 36 hours, both contain different active ingredient. That doesn't mean your waling around for 36hrs holding a cushion over your privates, you still have to be aroused first.

Given all your health issues, and I am sure a mix of different medication, it would be sensible to discuss with your doctor before getting Viagra etc. [I have similar health issues as yourself] The reason I mention this caution is I was advised not to take the blue pill etc and was put onto an injectionable medicine to help.

But a chemically induced erection does not address a lack of libido. I mean, you still have to want to nail something!

No , I’m not on any medication for heart ( I wasn’t sure on af / beta blockers so looked it up ) , I’ve had no treatment other than told I had heart murmur / iregular heart beat , there has been a lot going on with kidney cancer so I believe they prioritised that .
Or that was what I was told , they were prioritising the most important .thankyou

My gut feeling is tiredness , I’ve always been tired as get up midnight / 1 am but I’m on another level of tiredness of late , I’m struggling to stay awake , much more than normal .
I spoke to a doctor about diabetis the other day as he said we can’t just keep giving you medication without consultations , I told him issues I was having , extreme tiredness / Ed & he said we will do a blood test ( he did say my latest hbc1 had gone up from high 30,s to 48 .
We thought having most of kidney taken away in may could be cause , but it’s only started last month so not sure

Wife said as you , before you buy viagra etc you must speak to someone , I did tell consultant who rang about diabetis , Ed etc , he said blood test in 2 months & we will talk , had psa blood test today & will bring up Ed on consultation , thankyou .

This is what I’m struggling with , I do think about it , but I’m not so sure my body is saying goto sleep , you’re tired , I’m on a different level of tiredness to normal , something is causing this .

Thankyou all , as you say it won’t be solved by me reading what could be causing it , I’m just guessing , it could be 100& 1 things , though I was asked today at hospital if I was anemic? As I’ve black rings under eyes ( wife did comment on this other day ) , and nurse said when you pull down eye lids it’s white , should be pink / red , she said you need more iron .
But I doubt that’s the answer , only thing I can tie to Ed is this extreme tiredness I’ve had for last month or so , this seems to tie in with start of Ed , hopefully blood tests etc can give us the answer to what’s going on .
Thanks again for advice , I will come back if / when I find out what issue is as may help someone else , thankyou .

Maybe consider having a full range of blood tests to see if that reveals any issues? Could be low testosterone or similar?

My GP is pretty unhelpful with stuff like that so earlier this year I had blood tests dome privately using one of the online services,

I chose Medichecks. Think for the full range of tests it was £240 but I found a voucher code that brought it down to around £200. They send you a pack by post and you book an appointment with a local clinic that is signed up to them. You hand over the pack and they take the samples & seal the pack, then hand it back to you and you post it back to Medichecks. Got the results on their website a few days later.

I had a few readings that were lower than they should be, and some that were higher which all indicated towards me being overweight and not getting enough exercise. I had a telephone appointment with my GP who again was utterly useless so I decided to do something about the results, eat healthier and take daily walks which resulted in me losing 3 stone. I plan to have the same blood tests taken at the 12 month stage to see how they compare.

The tests motivated me to lose weight which in itself was well worth the £200

Thankyou gauge , I will look into it if I get nowhere with doctor / hospital , I know urology consultant asked me about Ed when first diagnosed with prostrate cancer , I have a consultation with urology once psa result comes back so will bring it up , I’ve already informed doctor ( diabetis doctor so will see what they come back with , if no help will certainly look into what you’ve suggested.

Book a GP appt.

There are a number of reasons why you might have ED but, being pragmatic, unless it is being aggravated by one of the medicines that you are on (and which can be switched to an alternative) you are likely to be offered sildenafil etc if suitable. And odds are it will work.

One question: are you on hormone treatment for your prostate cancer? If so, this causes both ED and loss of libido (and early morning erections) as the most common type reduces testosterone production and levels. Markedly.
