I have suffered a bad toothache. I thought it was a pain that could not be rivaled until I had a bad gout flare-up. I suppose any kind of pain can feel like the worst at the time. Having been suffering with gout for three decades, I've had some pretty bad episodes, until: kidney stone.

eek

Last night was the worst kind of pain I had ever felt. Thank medicine for that Diclofenac suppository.

Yep kidney stones awful had those,

teeth snapping off and leaving root in requiring surgery was bad too

The 2 weeks spent waiting for another tooth’s root to ‘explode’ also bad and caused a bit of bone to pop out that I can still feel on my gum

Back related disc issues not great but manageable

Most recently though has been a calcified shoulder they rated as 8/10. I had 3 cancer surgeries last year and didn’t touch a painkiller. That stash of good stuff has been used for this shoulder. Unbelievable vomit inducing pain that radiated everywhere in my upper body for the first 10 days.

I was chatting to the lady that takes care of by buildings and contents insurance about gallstones and she was of the opinion that gallstones are much worse than childbirth.

L3/L4 Disc issues are pretty grim, pain so bad that even the thought of it prevents you from moving as you know its going to hurt soooooo much.

I should acknowledge that I did suffer a broken arm as a kid and at the time it was painful. I have no way of comparing it to my worst pain. That said, I've seen the documentaries of people with bad breaks (I've also been on the rugby field when there have been breaks and dislocations) which look awful and must be right up there with the worst.

Root canal sounds torturous.

Ruptured appendix was bad, kept passing out with the pain.

Now have neuro issues in my hands which is absolute agony on a good day. Fuelled up on pain meds constantly now.

Infection behind an eardrum burst it and that was more painful than my L3/L4... And childbirth apparently.

Adele agrees!

Snapped knee ligaments and trapped cartilage during a footy match - made all the more fun by then being fallen on by the fat sweaty oaf that tackled me. The weird sensation of my trapped cartilage slithering back into place was a sickener as well. Probably mid-table pain compared to some of these other stories.

Worst I’ve had was appendicitis. I was curled up on the floor in the A&E reception as I couldn’t stand up.

Nothing a dose or 3 of morphine won’t solve though cloud9

My last kidney stone was painful to the point of throwing up. Apparently about a 7 or 8 out of 10 (where 10 is massive trauma...)

The painkillers they gave me didn't touch it and I could only hold down food or drink after being given anti-nausea pills. Not much fun.

Some good ones in here which I can’t really compete with.

Broke my femur as a kid snapped it in two it was at right angle to where it should be. Luckily ambulance was very quick and a bit of gas and air sorted my out.

Broke a rib or two very stabby pain for a week or so hard to sleep / take beep breaths but not on the scale of some of these.

Odd thing.

I dislocated my knee cap a few years ago. Thankfully it went straight back into the normal position.

It didn't really hurt until the next day and it was an ache rather than pain.

Then two week's later I was in bloody agony. I had fractured my tibia in the process and some cartilage had flaked off and was stuck between the joint. I couldn't put any weight at all on that leg.

I used to suffer with bad back sciatica type pain and muscle spasms. I remember once taking 20 minutes to pee because my muscles were in constant spasm I couldn't relax enough to empty my bladder.

I was told by a nurse that kidney stones are on a par with childbirth.

I was told the worst is a brain haemorrhage.

I can believe the gallstones although I know from experience it can vary greatly. Something to do with it being near the heart and it makes the adrenaline flow, which “racks up” the pain. Is this true?

Sciatica can be very painful too. Look alter your backs everyone, if you have to wriggle around underneath a car, stop and make the car sit higher. Guess how I know…

Absolute child's play - everyone knows the worst is hitting your elbow or ankle on something. In my case, smashing the outside of my ankle bone onto the edge of a stone step. I reckon my minutes-long scream (cut short only by running out of breath) was audible only to dogs, but across all of Manchester.

Paper cut is the worst!

Being serious now, I cannot claim to have suffered as much as some of you but having gone through over a day of being in labour, I can confirm Gallstones are in fact much worse as until that bloody stone moves, the pain is immense. At least with labour, it's only coming in waves and you get a break in between.

Having said the above these days I have Fibromyalgia and the pain from that is horrible and nothing takes it away. It is strange how you can become accustomed to pain. During the day I can cope, it's not nice but life goes on but at night I roll around the bed in agony when I just want to sleep. I'm running on exhaustion all the time, that type of exhaustion where you just have zero energy even to get up to go to the loo. I'm grateful this is not a terminal condition like cancer, but at night my thoughts do wander off to some dark places and a wish to just be free of it.
