Vitamin D3 + K2; cod liver/fish oil; magnesium; vitamin C...

Do you take any supplements?

Then there are the other types: ginseng; lion's mane; sea moss, shilajit etc.

I've tried a few and can say that I've never woken up feeling like anything has made a difference at all. Or do I need a dose of placebo?

Used to get loads of colds, started taking omega 3 daily and had 1 cold in about 10 years since.
Vitamin D between October and April.

D3 tablets daily 8000-16000 IU plus and 400ug of K2 - seems to stave off illnesses.
Omega 3,6,9 tablet
Zinc - 60mg - meant to help testosterone
Multivitamin effervescent - stops me drinking coffee on repeat all morning
Glucosamine sulphate - doesn't seem to have any effect though so not sure I'll persist
Magnesium (glysinate or citrate) - 750mg before bed, helps me sleep though has been working a little too well recently.
Creatine - 5-10mg a day.

I've tried lion's mane and other mushroom based tablets, ashwagandha and other CBD like products and not found the benefit to be anywhere close to the price.

Last year I tested myself for deficiencies and what I was intolerant to. Ended up buying quite a few things to top myself up but would find I'd get ill with colds, where previously I never got them. Never even had covid.

I take Vitamin D3 + K2 but I'm not convinced it does anything, same for the Glucosamine and the Collagen. I have zinc, lutein, magnesium and a few other things but rarely take them because I'd find I'd be more susceptible to colds. Also found I'm waking with headaches the last few weeks so could be not drinking enough with the tablets or the tablets themselves.

Can't take lions mane or any of the mushroom based ones as it flags as an intolerance. As does dairy, egg whites, gluten and peas.

Ones I consistently take:
Vit D: following test / dr. recommendation
Omega 3
Protein & creatine: I do a lot of cycling and a bit of running, both have helped with recovery

Currently trying Ashwagada for sleep improvement, I tend to wake and not get enough deep. It was cheap and am only 1 week in, unsure yet if it's something I'll continue with.

I take AG1 every morning, along with vit B1 - no idea how different I'd feel if I didn't. I've been taking it about 4 years!

I take Vitamin D through the winters and try and remember a generic multi vitamin gummy most days.

Just ordered some ZMA with the hope that it will help my restless sleeping... and secretly hoping for some of the other benefits that people seem to achieve.

Most supplements take a few months to feel any benefits. Some won't make you feel any different but may help with things like immunity etc.

I've taken loads of things over the years and there's only really one where I noticed a definite benefit - as well as a side effect, so I stopped taking it. Pregnenolone.

Have I read that right: 8,000 - 16,000 IU a day?

Tried loads of stuff. A lot are snake oil but what has worked for me includes zinc, Vit D, creatine and CBD off the top of my head. I take a few bits for joint health which I think might work; algae oil, glucosamine. What did fk all was lion's mane, turmeric, inositol. Still take a few others I'm not sure on, probably stop once they run out.

Concluded that best thing to do is find a few things that work and stick to it so long as you feel healthy, otherwise it's all guess work, wasted money and paralysis by analysis. That said, I'll probably try whatever the new trendy thing is, I'm a sucker for good marketing.

Anyone tried milk thistle?

O/H has been taking it twice a day for several years. She ran out a couple of weeks back and I haven't bought her any more yet. She seems just the same w/o it so that's hundreds of £££££ wasted...

You did indeed! If I researched right, I think that's the equivalent of a few hours in the sun each day.

That's quite a high dose of Vitamin D - recommended daily dose in adults is 400iu (or 10mcg). Too much can cause significant problems - info here and interesting podcast here.

I also take much of this, D3 at 4000iu, but no Glucosamine.

Iron as well as I was low on my 2022 blood test. Now at good levels.

I haven't had a cold in 4 years.

Most studies show the 400iu is well out of date. I take 4000iu based on many of those said studies and recent blood tests show my Vit D levels are in the middle of the 'good' level range.

Same answer for me too. Much is said about diet in the 'blue zones' around the world - not enough is said about those people's exposure to sunnier climate i.e. Vit D.
