Between a friend who is a nurse and myself, we believe I have got concussion. Following an incident at Oktoberfest that result in me being unconscious for two minutes.

Has anyone ever had it? It if som how long before I start to feel like myself again?

About 6 years ago I fell down my stairs (my own fault, I was rushing and being careless) and it was a proper fall right from the top of the stairs to a crumpled heap at the bottom, banging my head on the way down.

Wasn't knocked out though.

I had a headache and felt a bit nauseous for 2 days and it went away after that.

Guy at work had a bike accident about 9 months ago, still feels the effects a bit.

I think it really depends on each person and injury individually. Main thing is to listen to your body and not over push yourself if not 100%

I tripped and fell over at the pub a few years ago. Luckily I was holding 2 full pints which broke my fall - cut my forehead open & was told to go straight to hospital. Stupidly, I didn't but thankfully didn't require stitches or glueing up.
I slept for what seemed like a week & for the following fortnight I was exhausted, amongst other things.
Given that you were actually unconscious I'd give yourself a few weeks to recover. Look after yourself and make sure someone is checking in on you.

I slipped at home knocking my self out on a slate floor about 10 years ago.

Was unconscious for about 5 minutes in the obligatory pool of blood and needed stitches in hospital.

Was off work for 3 days but really should have stayed off for much longer than that. It was over a month before I had any sense of grip or feeling back in my left hand (it felt like I was crushing whatever I held when in fact I was barely holding on to it). 2 months before I could stand for any length of time without holding on to something and probably 3months from the accident before I felt close to normal again.

Yeah I've done it, out for five minutes, fitting, had a scan and there was nothing worrying on it. Did it early afternoon, felt pretty much ok by the evening but noticed some slight lag between thinking things and doing them which affected my coordination for a few days.

Slight headache from the injury and a permanent dent in my skull but other than that no lasting damage biggrin

I had it following a bike accident, not sure how long I was out for, prob like you a couple of minutes, spent the night in hospital, the effects stayed with me for 18 months, nausea, mood swings couldn’t concentrate at work, really debilitating

Had it after walking into the tailgate of the car, big smack to my head.

Had a headache for at least a week.

If you haven't gone to A&E, suggest you go and get checked out.

I knocked myself out carrying a log for the camp fire while camping about 30 years ago. I was pissed, slipped, fell and banged myself on the head with the log. I don’t know how long I was out for due to the intoxication. The side effect was that I pissed the bed that night.

Worth reading this from a bunch of people who take it much more seriously than they used to. You need to take a graded approach to returning to activity.

Woah. I nearly put mild concussion in the title and first post. Seems like that is not a thing.

Yes. A few times - snowboarding, mountain biking, karting, getting punched & kicked in the head, etc.

I’ve had very unpleasant headaches for a few days afterwards, but no long term effects that I’ve noticed.

Yep, had a few and a couple of friends have too. Take your time getting back in to things and be aware of how you feel, if worried at all, speak to a medical professional. Mine seem to have been minor (wrestling - the attitude at the time was to suck it up and keep going - luckily for me I got away with it). One friend took a couple of months to get back (motorbike accident). Another lad I know had to give up rugby, cease all exercise for about 18 months and is now on medication for life (repeated concussions in too short a period of time - and this was just at a social level - there's a reason they're much more serious about it now).
It's stupid really, this is a brain injury and we often treat it with less concern than a twisted ankle.

Got smacked on the temple by a large block during minor mooring task on a yacht. Was sitting below deck feeling a bit odd when a visitor boarded so i said hi and asked how they were, what they had been up to ?

His reply - fook what time did you start drinking ?

Think i just went for a lie down for 30 mins. Came back up on deck and the visitor said i sounded normalish again so just started drinking along with everyone else !

Upon reflection and 30 yrs later, i think i would have approached the situation differently now...

Black ice, right hand corner, country lane, deep ditch, before the days of side airbags.

Woke up wondering why the world was on its side.

Not much use to anyone for 24hrs. Didn't feel right for a week.

Fast forward 30 years and two boys starting to play contact rugby - it'll be a wonder if any matches take place at the end of the season so many have been benched for 2 weeks.

I did. It involved blue lights… eek

Thank you for all the information, the best way I can describe what I am feeling is this; imagine white noise, now imagine it is not a noise, but more of a feeling, and actually thing, that what my head feels like.

How long ago are we talking about? Hours/Days/Years?

AIUI Concussion is basically bruising of the brain, and - like any bruises, you can get swelling - but being encased in the skull there's nowhere for it to expand.
