My daughter had an accident a few years ago that meant she needed to have root canal work done on her front tooth. One of the side effects of this work is that the tooth has gone grey, but the dentist said they couldn't do any cosmetic work (i.e. a veneer on the grey tooth) until she was 18.

So we waited, and now she is about to be 18 we went down to the same dental surgery get it looked at for a veneer. The dentist took an X-ray and said that she couldn't quote for a veneer as the root canal work hadn't been done correctly, and that it would need to be done again. Quoted £900 for the new root canal work, plus £75 for the veneer estimate that never happened.

We complained to the surgery, but the manager said there is nothing they can do as the original dentist who did the root canal no longer works there (not unusual, they seem to have quite a high turnover) and that all the dentists are, in effect, self employed and that the surgery is merely an agent.

This all sounds very much like buck-passing, as we are going to have to pay another £1000 to them just to get us to the position we should have been in, but I've no idea how we take any action further.

Theres a dentist (my one) in Kent that does this, they have also 'respawned' a couple of times, the tell-tale is when they email you to tell you their new branding/ name.

I had two pieces of major work done, one of which tey washed their hands of as 'X has now left the practice, you can find her and follow up with her'

Im waiting to get some money issues sorted, and im going to go somewhere else, and key criteria is a large well-established and well-equipped practice that has been running in continuoous service for as long as possible.

No way would I consider any major work with this outfit. Best of luck with the GDC
