Good afternoon, I was thinking of going anonymous here but I don't think anyone knows me anyway.

I found a hard lump at the top of my left testicle. I've googled and it appears to be at the end of the epididymis. Its flat, hard , doesn't hurt, the size of a pea and has not increased in size since I found it 3 weeks ago.

I can recall about a month ago a sharp pain and then a dull feeling (as if Id been kicked in the spuds) which lasted a few seconds after I ran up the stairs.

Anyway, I went to the doctor and he's not sure. I'm in for a ultrasound later this week. He suspects its not cancer because its not on the testicle, but hes also concerned that its hard rather than soft to be a cyst. I have no other symptoms associated with testicle cancer, no swelling, no redness, nothing hurts, no discharge etc etc

Needless to say, Im worried sick now (especially as Mrs Old Audi passing away 3 years ago) . Not sure what I'm looking for by typing this to be honest, we wont know for certain until the ultrasound but I have no one to talk to!

Thanks

If it’s any comfort I had exactly the same issue but I spotted after riding around Leigh Woods on my mountain bike.

Two weeks of worry waiting for the scan and the family jewels checked out fine with no issues.

I had exactly same symptoms. Went to doctors was told nothing to worry about. He did ask if I’d had a vasectomy (I have) and said he was surprised nobody had mentioned that this was common afterwards….

I had exactly this once I had a scan to rule out anything sinister my GP said you can be referred to a specialist or just leave it. It took a hell of a long time to see a specialist (at least 18 months) for a <5min appointment who put it down to the vasectomy I had. He offered 3 options, live with it, have the epididymis removed with the caveat it may not solve the problem, have some sort of targeted nerve treatment, which was very specialist and only a few clinics could do it with the caveat that this may not make a difference.

I chose to live with it. He said its due to seaman still being produced and having no way to go, but production goes down as we age so will alleviate over time. It was fairly uncomfortable at times but does seem to be getting a bit better over time it does seem to be something that flairs up.

This isn't to say that's what you have though, I'd get it checked out. Worst case scenario testicular cancer is one of those with high survival rate if it's caught early.

Thanks all. I’ve not had a vasectomy but I might have a blockage somewhere I guess. I go in Friday so I’ll let you know how it goes !

Good luck, I’m sure it’s nothing but at least you noticed it and getting it looked at.

You’re doing the right thing getting the ultrasound to be safe, I had testicular cancer but the lump I found was within the body of the testicle and I understand this is a key sign. Having said that any lump or size change needs investigating. Best of luck, im sure it will be fine and as others have said in the unlikely event it is TC it’s curable.

I found one 8 years ago but advised to leave it as not life threatening , the summer of year 6 it started growing and was painful, as a manual worker it was getting squashed against my balls , so i arranged to see the surgeon again and after an ultrasound to check size had it removed 6 months later which by then more had developed into a bunch of grapes as the surgeon put it. I rested for the two weeks advised but here I am 14 months later booked in today for an op next week to remove an even bigger cyst than the original. This one has grown so fast and it’s very painful. It’s like having a plum between my legs. Surgeon has again said that surgery to remove does not mean another won’t appear. Apparently 1 on 4 men have them but only a small % need to have them removed.

Well after several sleepless nights , not eating correctly and one slippery set of examined testicles later…. It’s a cyst. A painful one, but not the big C.

…and relax….

Good to hear Oldaudi, I could have written this post myself about 10 years ago, like you it turned out to be a cyst but the stress itself probably took a few years of my life!!
