Saw the GP the other week as I have a hard lump on the outside of my leg just below my knee cap, it is the size of a large cherry. He suspects a ganglion cyst on the top of the fibia and has referred me to the orthopaedic clinic.

Has anyone had similar and can share pain coping methods. It gets progressively worse with the hot weather and I have been using ice and votarol, but I'm still struggling.

Surprised he didnt recommend giving it a hard whack to burst it. Thats what the quack said to me when I had a large one on my inner wrist

Surprised you got to see a GP. Tried for 5 weeks, only visting and mentioning a complaint to the GMC got one, the very next day, and of course referalls with to go with it.

Both my very good regular practice GP, there are a few, and a friend who is a GP, have left , one dissilusioned, went back into the teaching hospital that taught him, in the hope that he can make a difference.

The other into a private GP practise, a growing business model, the pay for her is little different and she is actually working harder, but overtime etc are rewrarded, unlike the NHS.

She is off the opinion the NHS is on a plan of being disbanded, only the poorest will get some sort of free medical care, I am inclined to agree.
My previous GP surgery was taken over by an American Equity company, I left, now where I have I heard about the medical situation described above before ?

I was tempted to have a go myself. However, I have one on each wrist that have been there for 40 years and didn't succumb to the GPs hammer.

it was whilst I was in the RN. The Doc, a Commander, wanted to smash it with a big book...as per above....I said no. I went to a naval hospital and they tried to suck out the liquid with a syringe/then a good hard squeeze. Well it came back bigger so then I had a local minor op where they cut it out...BUT they fked up and cut a vein and a nerve as well. Bled like a stuck pig. I now have a small dent in my wrist and my little finger goes numb at times. Thats the navy for you.........

True story from the 1970s: My mother went to see the Doctor about a ganglion -
"How can I help today?"
"Well, Doctor, I've got a ganglion"
"Ah - you know the traditional remedy for that, don't you? Hit it with the family Bible!"
"Yes Doctor. This one's on the back of my head..."

I had a large one on the inner part of my right wrist (plasterer) had it for years and it wasn’t until I moved to France and registered with a new gp there.
He asked how long I’ve had it and when I said over ten(10) years he said it needs removal quick like.

Couple of weeks later I had surgery to remove it, while doing the surgery that had to scrape the bone away in part as it had attached and grown onto the bone. Stuck me in plaster for six weeks and had the lump analysed. All ok.
