Hi all,

I'm looking for a smart ring, ideally that does heart rate etc. ( we have a heart rate monitor, my results are always "severe hype" no matter what I do. I think if i had a decent ring that could do the same, i could prove that wrong? I definitely have white coat syndrome, and that seems to be the same with a heart rate monitor. I hope.

Fancy a decent ring, been looking at Aura, Samsung, seem to be at around £300 to £400. Are they worth it? Anyone got one that has some reviews?

Many thanks

I’ve got the oura. IMO works very well. Looks at 3 main aspects: readiness, sleep and activity. Seems to calculate readiness and sleep well, activity pretty good except for really high intensity stuff.
They continue to update it, recently added in heart health and cardio capacity. Battery seems to last 3-4 years and 5-6 days between charging. I got the original and have since updated to the current model.

Would help if you clarified what information you want from the device and how you would use the information.

The information might be presented differently but AIUI rings and bands do no more and considerably less than a high end smart watch.

+1 for the Oura ring. Have had it for 6 months. Understand my body infinitely better and makes me understand when it’s time to rest and time to be active. Wouldn’t be without it.

Another vote for Oura
Had a Motive ring in 2018 but they sold their tech and closed their ring business, so in 2020 I moved to Oura.
I find the ring comfortable, reliable and accurate. GPS tracking for workouts works well, but is mostly for sleep tracking.
You can add tags to particular events which it offers for future events such as house work, gardening, and it offers suggestions for things like sport or walking. With a 10km run I get about 2 days charge and recharging takes about 2 hours.
I luckily don't have to pay the monthly subscription as I was an original subscriber but see its 6 (GBP / USD / EUR) a month or 70 a year for the historical reporting and trending.

I've go the Oura 3 and had the 2. I'm not a ring fan, but do like a real mechanical watch, so it is the lesser evil.

The app has gotten a lot better, but it is more informative than "real time", so you won't get the immediate heart rate etc.

I don't pay the monthly fee as I was an early adopter.

I quite like it, not sure if I would get it again if I had to subscribe.

I really wanted one as I don't want to ditch my mechanical watch for one... and 'm not double wristing biggrin

So a year ago I found this one Indiegogo

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ring-one-the-mo...

It's now a year overdue and the feedback from the company is basically a load of balls. Supposedly they will ship this week.... but it's been 'this week' for about 6 months now.

What I really liked about this offering was the fact it did all the health stuff but also acted as a payment method and also no ongoing subscription.

Would have been great if it had materialised or worked as promised. I'm no longer holding my breath though.

Looks like i'll have to fork out for one of the established players now. Although I don't think any of them yet act as payment / NFC

Get out of the gutter biggrin

Thanks for your input, now i'm looking at smart watches, is the Galaxy Smart Watch 7 any good? we both have Samsung phones.

Ideally i want to know as much as possible. I'm getting an old git, giving up smoking, doing much more exercise, and would just like to see my "stats" start looking better.

Thanks all.

Most reviews I've read say it's basically no better than the Watch 6 - and at least if you buy the Watch 6 Classic you get the rotating bezel.

I've got a watch 4 which I am tempted to replace, but the Watch 7 doesn't really seem to offer much over mine, despite it being several years out of date. I do consider watch 6 classic sometimes (it had a decent amount of money off on Prime day).

I do quite like the body composition stuff on the galaxy watch - I don't actually have a Samsung phone now, but 90% of the health stuff still works well with my new phone.

I’m another who doesn’t want to ditch their mechanical watches. I don’t like the idea of a monthly subscription and have a Samsung phone …. so the solution seemed to be the new Samsung ring. I’ve already had the sizing kit and the actual ring should be turning up next week. I shall try and remember to report back when I have it.

I'm with you on this, starting to doubt it'll ever materialise but I know if I go and order a different one then it'll turn up.
