Following on from my previous post regarding my experience of Necrotising Fasciilitis. My GP is now checking my wound on a weekly basis. On my visit on friday I was told that next friday he was going to use silver nitrate on the wound. It seems its 'over granulating'.
He didn't go into details so I resorted to Dr Google, who informs me that this is applying acid to an open wound to shrink and close it. He also said it was a very painful procedure. It would be especially so in the area of my wound.
Has anyone had this procedure and can give me advice.?
Should I say no?

My son had this on his leg due I think to what was tissue overgrowth to a wound.

It wasn’t that painful and did solve the problem.

Overgranulating tissue doesn't have nerves. So using silver nitrate corectly usually doesn't hurt. Nor does infected tissue.

If your wound is problematic and are you close to this line (?) , then the the local Plastics Dressings Clinic should be in charge. They (and we) use things like Pico, Renasys and other dressings, which have revolutionised the game in the last 15 years.

No wound frightens the PDC.

I haven't read your other thread, perhaps you are far on from all this.
Mortality (chance of death) is usually
Age in years %

Thanks for your reply. I live in Darlington, do you have a clinic near?
Please read my other post as I realise I came close to death.

I'm an orthopaedic surgeon in Cumbria. I operate on Nec Fasc in my hospital and we have help from the plastics guys at the RVI in Newcastle.

Your local plastics team will be in James Cook hospital , but you can't self refer, your GP or surgeon would refer you to them, if they wanted help.

Thanks ,'the doc' for your reply. I have been through hell with this problem ,but despite my age (77) thankfully I have so far survived. At my 8 week check up the surgeon was amazed how well my wound had healed and put it down to the fact that I don't sit still. Now I remember, he did say that if the wound had been on any other part of my body he would have referred me to James Cook for further wound reconstruction.
However as it was my 'undercarriage' that was cut he didn't feel it was justified as no one would ever see it (not these days). I would just be left with a bumpy area.Regards.
