I appear to have lost the ability to get out of my own head these days. How do you do it!

I think sometimes it's very difficult, I've just started a new job and some old habits came storming back in terms of head space leading to sleepless nights self doubt and all that goes with that, but I just said to myself it will pass, you can control your mind, get busy, be structured follow your process.

2 weeks on and the Monkey is back in his cage until the next time, which is fine I'll be ready.

One thing I will say is. (and I say this every time I post on a thread like this) Go and see a professional just like you would if you wanted to start a sport as they will teach you how to do it, I did and I now have a set of tools to fight that inner bugger we all have.

Talking of monkeys and not sure if the above poster is referencing this, but this book is worth a read.

Are you referring to self-control, artistic desire, inspiration, aspiration, self-awareness. Empathy, sympathy.

Are you on medication?

Are you in a stable life setup?

Anger management?

Or are you referring to the ability to step back and 'have thoughts'.
The ability to just switch off… you know, watch a tv programme without having some obscure fking thought appear.

I was doing ok this morning, but then this afternoon I have started overthinking ste again.

How's your digital consumption? i.e internet use versus '90s' lifestyle.

Do you have kids and family.

Approx. age range.

Job... manual, digital?

Are you fit, healthy, in a regular, managed routine?

Are you in control of the core aspects of a traditional and 'average' life... i.e are you up to date with bills, household tasks and maintenance, friends and family, hobbies, work/life balance.

Are your parents reaching an age they require support.

If you were born in the 70/80s, have you done the same job for the last two decades following the traditional route to 2.4 children but perhaps had a health scare which has given you a life wobble leading to you re-evaluating your setup and goals.

Any triggers?

Give us some clues, as there are many reasons for the the funk, and many paths to move past it and they are not all going to be a one-size.

Be as vague, and make it up as you like. But you could be a war veteran suffering sexual abuse, or an IT career guy stressing over his third unplanned child and the opinions and casual 'advice' will definitely not be the same.

As you are asking on some bullst car forum, rather than approaching a professional, you've at least got to get us in the ballpark which can then lead you to the route and experiences you may garner insight from.
Digital consumption - probably to much
Wife no kids
Lates 40’s
Desk based engineer who occasionally messes around with large plant
Fit and healthy
Completely in control
Parents getting older, but still completely independent

Basically if I have you a complete run down of my life I have precisely fk all to complain about. But for some reason my head still thinks I am failing.

Good posts. I struggle with this. Have read most of the advice before. Really struggling with digital consumption reduction.

I'm in a similar situation. I've always been a bit of an overthinker, and a cycling injury last year left me with a fractured skull and concussion, along with a whole host of psychological issues.

I've deleted social media, which has helped, and avoid any triggering/anxiety/stress inducing threads on here. I've also found mindfulness/meditation to be helpful. It's hard to get into, as sitting in silence suddenly makes your thoughts extremely loud indeed, but learning to dissociate from them, and take a back seat in my own head is very helpful. It takes some practice though.

Drop me a line on here if you want. I'm only up the road from you.

It’s that large plant blocking the sunlight.

Does your job offer scope to do more site visits? I find I can’t do a 100% office based job, I like designing but really need to get onto site to feel like I’m accomplishing things, there’s a decent sense of satisfaction seeing the physical manifestation of your efforts.
