That's awful to hear. This is all down to mental stress taking its toll. I know because I've experienced how it tears your life apart.

His harsh upbringing from his father and his step-father followed by the smear on his reputation from the doping scandal. All this has torn his life apart. I hope he can recover from this.

What a shame, wish him well, and anyone suffering with poor mental health.

That's terrible.

This country loves nothing more than building people up to knock them down later, the doping allegations were not some kind of Lance Armstrong affair, and once the initial shine came off the whole Team Sky / British Cycling organisation was in the sights of the knockers.

The sports people who can cope with this are few and far between, Cavendish has been very open about it.

I really hope that this has a good outcome but at a time when cycling is slipping from public consciousness, and becoming less popular the avenues for him to find a financial lifeline are small.

I am sure there are ex-team mates and coaching staff who have made better life choices who can help him out. If not it's a bad job as his TdF win turbocharged all their careers.

Perhaps bad taste, and not in anyway belittling the mental health side, but curious about the details of the financial side

Article says wiggins claims he was screwed by the folk he put in charge of running his companies. But a quick peek at companies house shows a directors loan account overdrawn 650k, which doesn't quite tally

From what I can make out (admittedly on Wiki), the accusations were fair and it was felt the meds were for a performance advantage (and not for asthma as claimed).

Wiki said:
During his career and afterwards he faced a series of allegations that he exploited a loophole in cycling's anti-doping regulations to use a performance-enhancing drug, injections of the powerful corticosteroid, triamcinolone. He did not receive any bans or suspensions in relation to doping during his career.[5]

On 5 March 2018, the British House of Commons Committee for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport published their report called "Combatting doping in sport". They concluded inter alia that Team Sky had used the powerful banned corticosteroid triamcinolone in 2012 under TUE (Therapeutic Use Exemption) "to prepare Bradley Wiggins, and possibly other riders supporting him, for the Tour de France. The purpose of this was not to treat medical need, but to improve his power to weight ratio ahead of the race." The report concluded that "we believe that drugs were being used by Team Sky, within the World Anti-Doping Agency rules, to enhance the performance of riders, and not just to treat medical need."[6]

Agreed, he was doping, but it's still a dreadful place to end up emotionally. Wouldn't wish mental health problems on anyone.

Cycling attracts a surprising amount of people who I’d say are troubled and/or quite heavily on the spectrum in some way. I think the nature of the sport and how many hours are required to be decent tends to attracts certain folk. I know lots of people through riding and they are a fairly odd bunch in general, not saying I’m an exception either.

I would think Cavendish may struggle post career. Volatile personality and has clearly had difficulty with calling it a day and has always been vulnerable when injured over the years.

Brad needed an outlet for his demons and cycling seemed to be near perfect. Once that’s not there it can be difficult to fill that void. I’m sure he will come out the other side and he can probably start to channel that energy somewhere else, might be that his son is the answer and he can still be close to the top of the sport in a productive way through Ben.

He was living with some woman down the road from me last I heard. I doubt he’s homeless.

Hard to miss the constant stories about her antics. Then the inevitable, ""I've changed interview with crocodile tears and I'm a victim"".

He is currently working as a youth offending outreach worker for a number of London boroughs.

I suspect he is also bipolar, like his (ex) wife.

Cav is well grounded. He is a friend of friends and they have all said over the years that he and Petra are way too switched on and well invested to end up in penury.

I'd say she is a very damaged human being, but then I don't know her either so I guess it's all about perspective. Have a great week guys, out x

Random cycling guy who overcame fairly common issues sad he wasted income (above UK average) built during period of media interest.

That's newsworthy is it?

For the fannys... Random guy then attempts to resell story to any media outlet that feigns interest using faux mental health narrative as public interest hook.

Currently, minor column inches covering story while awaiting xxx...

We all have personal issues. He had some. He has some. I can empathise. I can sympathise. I don't give a st he wasted his five minutes of gold accumulation.
Why comment then?

Every sympathy for anyone suffering mental health issues, however when he was at the height of his success his public persona was a bit "arrogant ahole" so many may feel little or no sympathy for him TBF

How do you squander millions of pounds.

It's a shame as he was/is a great character in a sport largely devoid of characters but I'm struggling to muster any sympathy.
