Hi all,

i'm just trying to help my step-mum.

She does not want one, but we're looking for some type of mobility scooter for her, as she can't really walk, but she would love to pop round her garden, dead-heading, tending to flowers etc.

We want to call round with one for her to try, and hopefully love.

Where would we get one to either for hire for a week, or, cheap enough that if we get it, and she hates it, it doesn't matter.?

She is 83, has cancer, and has other medical issues, but still with it, and we know she would love to be able to pop round the garden and do a bit here and there.

Thanks all

Hi, is there a local mobility shop you can find on the web?
You could try a few models / formats for size.

I’ve had a few for my mum and always buy second hand (mostly eBay). Currently have a Colt Sport I bought for around £350. New price was £3000!

It’s daylight robbery so tread carefully if going through main dealers. I once bought an immaculate Cordoba for around £450. When I asked why they were selling while loading it, they outlined it was only a few months old, bought for £3.4K, but the supplying dealer only offered a buy back of £300!

So they just wanted rid.

I think the market is rigged, so good condition while used I found the way to go.

Do you want one for example that can be disassembled for the boot of a car, or can it stay built up in a hallway and only used locally. What range are you looking for (battery size) and how much weight does it need to move etc.

All this effects the level of commodity / comfort you can expect and the size of the scooter you need.

I’d avoid three wheelers based on stability.

Finally check the batteries as these have become expensive and can cost as much as an old scooter themselves…

Buy well and they hold their money if you resell / upgrade etc.
