Hi all
I have high blood pressure for the last 10 years I am 70 yo. About 10 years ago I was at the well man clinic and my blood pressure was 165/80 they put me on amalodapine, Which did not do anything to the top number but the bottom one went down slightly.

Over the next few years they added rampril indaptamine and finally Bisoprolol my blood pressure came down to acceptable levels.
2 years ago I started getting dizzy I told the nurse but she glossed over it, this year it started getting worse and a couple of weeks ago I passed out.

Went to the doctor who has arranged numerous tests but also found out if my blood pressure is taken stood up it trips dramatically. I went home ant tested my blood pressure and it was 80/40 and I didn’t feel dizzy.

I stopped all my medication and the dizzy spells have stopped. Went to the nurse and I could feel I was anxious which doesn’t normally happen to me and my blood pressure was high so I went on to Rampril.

Now if I take my reading on a morning it’s around 140/80 if I exercise in any way it drops to under 100. I have noticed when my pressure is high my pulse is low ish , if my pressure low my pulse is higher not too high but higher than normal about 89 when my pressure is 90/58

Sorry for the long post anyone suffers with this?

I’ve had high blood pressure for about 10 years now, I’ve been on amlodopine and ramapril for years. I need to stop drinking to lower mine but I’m a borderline alcoholic!

This was mine done in Walmart in Florida years ago:

My partner has a blood pressure machine so I used it thinking everything would be normal and got 153/80. I called the Dr and they got me to take three readings in the morning and evening for a week.

My results were very similar to yours and they told me the same thing.

I think a lot of it at the time was due to me arranging a re mortgage on my house that the legal company fked up a few weeks before completion. The deal was about to expire and rates had increased massively since I had arranged it.

I take my blood pressure every now and again, the best I have ever seen is 117/67. However, most of the time it seems to be in the 130ish/80 range.

It surprises me how much it fluctuates, but I suppose its why they suggest taking a few readings to get an average.

I take Amlodipine and Losartan. When one didn't make any difference the doc added the other one pretty quickly - I had to get BP down before I could have a prostate bioposy, they'd refused to do it. Quack thought they were being a bit pedantic.

Anyway, it sits at 120/80 now, but if I take if after an hour of pilates (so not exactly heavy-duty exercise) it'll be 100 over 60, and I do notice when I'm there that I can sometimes feel light headed if I get up off the floor. A couple of the younger women who go are the same, if not worse, but they have naturally low BP.

You've not specified the exercise but if you do enough of it your body actually expands your arteries to get more blood flow. It takes a few minutes to take effect - I found this out when I did my last heart stress test.

I have high BP. Take a lot of meds since a heart attack 15 years ago, including Statins and Ramipril.

I've had to do a couple of weeks of readings, first thing in the morning and last thing at night.

Mine ended up similar to the sheet posted earlier.

I had cut out red meat, booze, chocolate and crisps to achieve those numbers plus get myself into almost a Zen like state before the readings, as suggested on the instructions with the monitor and online.

Thing is, that is not real life biggrin

The odd thing with my 2 weeks of readings were that I had allowed myself a couple of drinks at the weekends. The next morning the readings were the best I had ever had. 110/70.

Quickly rose to the 135/87 mark by the Monday evening once cutting out alcohol.

I'd had high blood pressure for a while and did the usual thing of putting it down to stress, life, any other excuse. I quit drinking and hey presto, it's been bang on the money the last four times I've had it (life is still stresfull!) I was drinking beer on a regular basis.

It's a bit elevated, less than 120/80 mmHg is normal.

It’s a range abd us dependant on many factors age, fitness, weight, other factors etc… it’s not as easy as 120/80 +\~.

Oh and before anyone goes on meds you need a 24 hour monitor.

Edit to add I’m not a doctor but have had similar reasons all my life and several docs are fine with it because not over weight, fit, don’t smoke etc…

I'll just say that NICE is glacially slow updating their guidance. Currently UK guidelines are to basically ignore anything under 135.

However in USA for instance it's been updated to 120 for all ages. Age does indeed stiffen the blood vessels and make higher blood pressure more 'normal' but that doesn't mean it doesn't lead to problems.

Also not a doctor.

Google PEH…. Post Exercise Hypotension (not hypertension)!

It’s a known fact that after excercise your blood pressure can drop! It can last for hours as well.

Probably why being active is good for you.

I’m nearly 50.

Readings recently were around 181/120
Dr put me on Lisinopril which has brought it down to around 134/85 (less if I go for a short run)

Positive - I believe you retain less water so have lost bit of weight (just more frequent toilet trips!)

Downside - I get dizzy pretty much every time I stand up. Have to get up or out of bed very slowly. One day I fear I’ll faint
