So coming up to 4 weeks ago i fell off a ladder and shattered a kneecap and broke the top of my arm 3 inches down from the shoulder.

Ive got a sling and a leg brace thing.

Ive had two scans done so far. The nhs then sent me an appointment for another scan this week but i couldn't make it. I immediately asked for a new appointment but they said the next available appointment was in 3.5 months time.

So my question is this. I think my kneecap will need a lot longer to heal than my arm, and assume my arm fracture will probably be healed in the next 2 to 4 weeks. What i dont want is to leave my arm in a sling longer than needs be when i should be exercising it to minimise scar tissue/risk of arthritis.

Its a funny old world its come to this but im now turning to google and ph instead of the nhs to ask-when do you know your fracture is healed? Its obviously not gonna go from broken to back to normal overnight, but i dont want to leave my arm in a sling longer than it needs to be but at the same time dont want to take it out too early.

Any tips or pointers appreciated.

You need a fracture clinic appt, and not advice on a forum from me. Without seeing your xrays it's impossible.
Don't post them please.
Sorry
Rebooking the appt for 3.5 months isn't on. Politely ask it to be 3.5 weeks

Presumably with a broken kneecap and arm you aren't exactly going about your daily business?! What I'm getting at is (rhetorically) what the hell was so important you couldnt attend the appointment!

I agree but that is what ive been told by the appointment team.

How do i escalate this then? I have no direct line of communication to the clinicians.

I couldn't attend the appointment that was offered because i was on a holiday which the doctor cleared me to go on and was aware of. I was very happy to get another appointment at any point thereafter but the message was its now over 3 months until the next one.

I am relatively mobile as it happens and can walk about with a crutch and a leg brace and my arm in a sling.

You should "belong" to a named orthopaedic consultant surgeon, she or he would have been doing the initial fracture clinic on your day. Not the A&E gang.
You could ring their secretary and ask to be reinstated in a timely clinic. If you have letters delivered to the house about your treatment they might quote the Consultant by name

Or ring Fracture Clinic and ask them to track down your owning consultant. Or the hospital's PALS team for the same.

Named consultant ownership for hospital episode is usually quite a fundamental constant.
