I’ve had a bug all winter, anybody else?
Discussion
As per thread title, I first became unwell at the beginning of November. It’s a bug that migrates between my chest and throat, to my nose. Just after Christmas it caused me to go deaf in both ears for 2 months, due to fluid behind the eardrum.
I’ve had 3 lots of antibiotics, blood tests, chest X-rays. Nothing found.
I have pains in my chest, I’m ok at rest, but a walk will bring it on in a couple of minutes, as will a hot bath.
I handed myself in at A&E 2 weeks ago, spent a night on CICU, nothing found.
My Dr also triggered an oncology review, all ok, I had a CT scan earlier last week, not heard anything yet though.
It’s restricting me, obviously. Need to go back to bed most afternoons. I’m still managing to work, and do some working out, which doesn’t seem to bring the pain on like walking does.
Anybody else relate to any of this?
I’m 62, and never knowingly had Covid.

There does seem to have been a lot about this winter.
In particular very high numbers of Bordetella pertussis (causative agent of Whooping cough). Microbiologist at work reckons it peaks in 4-year cycles which coincides with leap year/olympic year.
Also a lot of Mycoplasma pneumoniae about as well as the usual winter viruses (Flu A, RSV etc.).

100 day cough our docs are calling it, many down with it, Missus had it since just after Christmas, just coming out of it.
Yep, same my son's 9 and had horrendous cough for 4+weeks as have most of the school, was my turn to get it last week.....sweats,chest infection and barely able to breathe. On a course of antibiotics and steroid's currently....not doing much good!
Same here, though not as bad. I'm asthmatic so get everything respiratory very easily and struggle to shake it off.
I'm a couple of weeks after a course of antibiotics, which themselves came after a week of prednisilone. The steroids just made me hyper and fat. I've not managed a run for a month - now get out of breath if I walk up the stairs too fast. It's not COVID: I've had that 3 times already.
So, so fed up.

Been ill for a solid week. Start to feel a little better, so go and do something, then back in bed feeling worse.
Started with the usual blocked nose, feeling like you've got a cannonball stuck in your sinuses, fever and shivering. Now a terribly sore throat making it difficult to swallow. I expect the hacking cough is in the post...
Was ill just before Christmas with similar too.

I'm entering the 3rd week of illness. I've had a violent cough which has been ongoing and like a previous poster I am susceptible to an asthma reaction. I've had prednisolone and 2 courses of antibiotics but they haven't done much good.
It is improving, but very very slowly.
My wife has been suffering from the cough too - I don't remember being this poorly in the 35 years we have been together.
Prior to us being ill our son, a teacher, had 3 weeks off work with the cough.
It's really nasty.

Yes, I’m contributing on that thread. https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

However, this thread is more about the length of time I’ve had it, 5-6 months.
It seems lots of people have had a nasty bug this winter, but not aware of any who have been ill since the start of November…
Certainly seems to be a bad strain of something going about this year, im on week 7 of coughing up crap and being out of breath from what started out as a mild cold, then into a heavy cold 2 weeks later. 33 and normally pretty healthy but working outside all the time in the constant wet and cold hasn't helped me get over it either.
Given up trying to get a drs appointment for some antibiotics after multiple calls at bang on 8am to try and book in as unless your about dead you've no chance of getting in at our local surgery it seems so you've ateast had some progress with them looking into it.

The old 'unprecedented times' wheeze still going strong at the Dr's. I think they just got a taste for not having to deal with the great unwashed during covid and won't let go of that sweet deal. I actually live ten minutes away from mine, and after about the third morning of being stuck on hold (unrelated to current lurg) I just hung up and walked down there. You can't access the building full stop. A device will bark at you to state your business and will be buzzed in if you have an appointment. But you can't make an appointment there... Oh no.Mine is a big modern glass building so you can see inside. A few receptionists idly chatting on reception. Hardly anyone else around. No ringing phones...
They're having a laugh. It was getting silly when they started making you explain your problem in front of the entire room, now they won't even see you.
Keep pushing.
Mine started last Sept as a bout of covid, and just not recovering properly. (according to docs) long covid ;-fatigued and breathless, vulnerable to any cough or cold. Eventually blood tests, xrays , then ECG revealed heart failure.
Started meds in January, and managing the condition now attending a nurse lead specialist clinic.
Worrying, but feeling much fitter and resuming normal activities. I've not tried any hill walking yet, but that's largely down to weather and an elderly dog.
