I had a gallstone operation planned for 5 th feb , prostrate biopsy 7 th February , consultation with kidney specialist 9 th February , diabetic eye test 9 th February , ent appointment 12 th feb .
We have had to temporarily suspend the gallbladder operation , cancel diabetic eye test .
This seems a fairly normal week / month of appointments of late , I can’t just leave my job for hour / two as most days are all over the country , so I have been covering with holidays , 7/8 & 12 th with hol ( 9 th is rota day off ) , but out of holidays now .
It’s obviously my issue , my health problems , but how do you work round this whilst working , mates have suggested a zero hours contract job , work when you want , other than that I’m at a loss

I’m a lorry driver , can’t really make up hours as do max hours 15 / 13 most days , 5/6 days & high 60,70 hours per week , been covering it with holidays .
I guess it’s the wrong job / full time with multiple illnesses , I’ll probably go down zero hours/ agency work until hopefully get sorted out , thankyou

I make use a lot of my holidays for Dr's appointments, st but at least then doesn't interfere with my job. Also go for the earliest or latest appointments in the day so again can work each side of them.

Best of luck.

wait until April, ask for flexible time when new law comes into play. if they try to fight you would be clear case of discrimination for a protected characteristic. Could do it now, but more strength in April.

''From 6th April 2024, the newly approved Employment Rights Bill (Flexible Working) will go through. The new regulations will mean that: Employees can make a flexible working request twice every 12 months (previously this was one)''
