Have had a bloody rough sinus infection, seems to be happening every damn year over winter Usually after sodding Xmas so next year am being a hermit.

Anyway, I find Sudafed really helps a lot, it clears it all up and makes life bearable. But I was wondering, if it just dries you all up a bit, does this slow down the time the damn thing passes through your system? So if you take it every day and night maybe the lurgy lasts for 10 days, if you take the odd one, it lasts for less?

Is this a thing, I only thought so as it dries up your passages a bit, or would it make sod all difference?

I have had a few in the last 3 or 4 years never before.
I have got quite bad with them and had antibiotics a couple of times .
The doctor told me both times absolutely do not take sudafed.
Prolonging the condition, that is generally viral, leads to a bacterial infection.

I seem to remember that Sudafed is bad for those with an enlarged prostate. It accentuates the symptoms.

Bloody hell, now I am not an internet hospital guy, but it really does help the pain go away, but seemingly at a cost!

Are there any sinus meds that do it better on advisement?

The best thing I've found is just a simple saline wash such as Sterimar - as advised to me by an ENT specialist.

me too

Called a nasal douche

but mix your own solution of salt and bicarb of soda rather than buy the premade sachets.

That's what the ent surgeon advised me.

The first few times are awful. Like breathing in seawater but persevere and it may help.

Sticks.

Sudafed works by shrinking the blood vessels so reduced inflammation/congestion. Tablets carry a warning for people with high BP iirc.

Better airflow helps clear infection. If you have rhinitis something like Avamys might be better, ask a Dr.

Nasal douche isn't so bad, I do it over the bath, head right forward, water almost backing into my throat. Short term relief.

I used a nasal spray last year that worked really well. Could breath through my nose straight away after using it

Otravine or similar I think it was called

If it is recurring I would suggest seeing the Dr and being referred to an ENT specialist. I've had various nose/throat issues and have had a deviated septum fixed, tonsils + adenoids removed. No more issues since. Like yourself I was taking alot of medication to help manage the symptoms plus using a nasal rinse.

Have had to call time on work today, tried going back this week but it is just not fair on myself, also noticed a weeping eye aswell, another sign it is maybe more than a simple virus. Trouble is doctors is not easy to get in. Am not taking anything right now other than a nasal spray, one ear is very blocked, other is up and down, throat is like broken glass, very painful, and usual cough and slightly tunny nose. Dont have a headache though luckily, but this thriat is brutal really.
