My mum needs (another) hip replacement.

She can’t walk and is in constant pain.

The NHS are doing their best, but I suspect it’s going to take a while to get sorted.

Before I suggest it, would anyone know a ballpark figure of getting this done privately? Will it actually be any quicker?

You can phone a private hospital and ask for a ‘self pay’ package quote. It will likely not include an initial consultation. Fees vary but £200-250 for the consultation and ballpark £12-14k for the package. It is likely to be much quicker than the NHS unless she has already been on the list for some time. I hope this helps.

Circa £13 to £15k, and approx 3wk waiting to have it attended to assuming no underlying complications.

Our local prices (NE England) are £14900 for a robotic hip replacement and approximately £13000 for a standard hip replacement.

I'm off to Lithuania later this month for a new knee (second knee to be done later in the year once this one has recovered fully).
Price once you've added travel, accommodation, physio, insurance etc is about half of private in the UK.
The price difference got my initial interest, but having done the research, availability of dates, quality of service, quality of rehabilitation and results of past performance are all better than UK. I'd be going there anyway now even if a UK hospital could match the price. All in price for a knee is around £7000 to £8000, hips are a thousand or two cheaper.

Which joint registry are Latvia part of? This was pointed out to you in your own thread. You pay your money you make your choice but you cannot compare results.

I think you are getting mixed up with someone else on a different thread

It increases the accuracy of component position to theoretically aid things like the reduction of dislocation rate in hips. In knee replacements it has the potential benefit of increasing post operative satisfaction such as pain and patella tracking. The long term benefits are being studied.

I apologise if it was not your thread recently asking this very question. However the comment on comparing results remains valid.

Sticks.

Two friends of mine recently had hip replacements. One paid Benenden Hosp iirc £10k. The other was sent to a private hosp by the NHS (so free).

I'm not sure why one was prioritised and the other now, they seemed equally affected by it, and both similar age.

And we don't know if any robotics improve outcomes yet. They are at best a pioneering experimental adjunct for researchers and at worst a waste of money and time.

Like patient specific jigs before them, and computer aided surgery (3D IR mapping) before them, and, and, and,

Fiddly
And
Demanding

We need pioneers, but we should agree something works before charging anyone (or the NHS) for it.

Back in December my mother was put on the NHS waiting list for a new hip with an expected wait of around 4 months. She’d opted to accept a cancellation date. Just the other day they contacted her offering an operation next week, which she accepted.
