Tooth Whitening

Any recommendations for a good tooth whitening kit I can buy or am I better just going to the dentist to get it done?? My dentist is asking for £350 but wondering if it's cheaper just to DIY.

Go to a dentist. Ring around all of them though, prices differ wildly. I was quoted anything from £180 to £500 all for the same fitted trays and whitening gel/kit.

Wife had this done at a dentist due to damage to her teeth causing yellowing/dicolouration. The routine is a bit of a pain (no coloured food/drink for a couple of weeks, whiting strips etc) but it was done 3 years ago and still looks perfect. Can't remember the price but it was worth it and we were happy we went to a dentist for it.

Is this something you'd need to repeat regularly or is it a one off thing?

Definite issue with whitening in no small part due to smoking and drinking a lot of espresso. Tried all the whitening toothpastes but none seem to be effective, at least to the level I need.

When I lived in the States you could buy strip things that adhered to your teeth, you'd keep them on for 30 mins/day while doing whatever else. Not uncomfortable. You'd do this 5 days out of the month then repeat next month. Worked brilliantly and not expensive.

Would love to get those but haven't found anything equivalent here.

You do need to keep on top of whitening trays/kits, I tend to use them once a month now. They do work well though.

The teeth strips (looks like a plaster!) can be purchased online but got feeling they aren’t approved for uk use? Mainly middle men reseller types. I tried them but nothing compared to the dentist trays.

Hmm, Wife has not had to do anything to her teeth in 3+ years, though her colouring wasn't down to foods etc so maybe that's a factor, if you have discoloured your teeth from drinking coffee, then whiten your teeth but don't stop the coffee I guess they will just go again.

Just don't keep the kit on longer than instructed.

I had some trays made and use Phillips Zoom 16%. I do it annually and leave the trays in whilst I sleep every night for two weeks.

Initially I did go to the dentist to have them whitened in one visit but I experienced pretty brutal sensitivity which I don't get via the above method.

its dirt cheap in spain if you ever travel , i paid 100e with descaling

its somewhat uncomfortable so bear that in mind

I suspect they wrere Crest whitening strips

I have trays and use PolaNight. Highly recommend never had any sensitivity.

I had some teeth straightened via invisalign and then whitening. I had some stronger trays made by my dentist specifically for whitening and it was a case of applying gel via a whitening syringe into the trays which was supplied by him. The initial whitening was included

You can get different strengths of whitening gel, 5% 10% maybe stronger also. I tried 10% and it made my gums/teeth ache quite badly, switching to 5% greatly reduced this discomfort, but my dentist did say if I feel any pain to take a day or two off before whitening again.

Out of interest, did you get shade charts and advice on how far to take it to give a natural white look?

I'm in the process of losing 4 stone and as a reward when I get to my goal weight want to spend a few quid to have my slightly yellowing teeth brightened up, without going full Ross!
