Suspected viral meningitis.
On anti viral drip for 24hrs while tests were carried out.
Luckily turns out it’s “only” shingles. Only! Ffs the pain is horrendous.
Headache is excruciating, lymph nodes on both sides of neck, armpits and shoulders all swollen and sore to touch. Can’t get comfortable lying down as they get pressed on.
The rash itself is itchy, warm and the nerve pain is constant soreness.
Anyone else had this horrible virus?

Yep. Had that one. Nasty. You have my sympathies.

The painkillers don't really work for it, no matter how much you take. And it's almost impossible to get you the anti-virals fast enough.

I had shingles in December last year. Wasn't as bad as yours sounds and I wasn't admitted, but I did have to go for an emergency eye scan to check there was no scarring. I didn't get much of a rash and it was all confined to the left side of my head and neck. I continued to feel occasional nerve tingling for a month or two after recovery.

It's a nasty thing. I'm pretty fit and healthy but it was still painful and unpleasant, and for anyone less strong or elderly must be really debilitating.

Hope you feel better soon.

Not fun. I hope you get over it quickly. I tried every painkiller combo and nothing really touched it. I found the only thing that helped was distraction from the pain. I laid a wooden floor while I was off work. I'm still scarred on the affected nerve ends on my torso.

Best wishes.

They pumped in 2 loads of anti virals by drip which hopefully helped a bit.
Bit brighter today as lymph nodes on right not as swollen or sore. Left side is agony as is rash. Headache not as bad.
Co codamol 30/500 not touching the side. I couldn’t face a red wine or a beer either.
I may get the missus to head down the high street for some heroin or fentanyl to see if that helps.
But tbh I’m more relieved it’s not meningitis or something else worse. Just need to suck it up a bit and chill out next couple of weeks.
Anyone had it bad got any ideas when you stop feeling like poop and on fire.

It was a week or more, but it does pass. I think the worst outcomes are things like scarring on the retina if you are lucky enough to get it on the head.

Had it twice. Would wish it on my worst enemy. 2nd time my lift arm and upper rear torso. More rash on my rear that I now have an area of no feeling in the nerves.

But worse was the right arm. Bicep. I woke in the middle of the night in pain then agony then sheer terror as the muscle spasms and pain went through the roof. Threw myself off my bed to get lower to the ground (seemed natural to do thus but didn't help.
Luckily i was stayi g over at my parents at the time . Managed to phone the home home from my mobile my mum answered as a pH e beside her bed. I just screamed in pain. She came up to find my entire body go from dry to dripping and I mean dripping sweat from everywhere the carpet was ringing.
That pain was so intense if i had a gun at my bed I would have shot myself
Was off work 3 weeks so week on my right side and totally drained.

What a coincidence. I was pondering the idea of starting a thread regarding Shingles, but you have beaten me to it!
I started with a small rash on the right of my torso and an even smaller one on my back. It started to itch and sting, especially when in contact with clothing or when any pressure was put on it. Not too painful generally. However, I went to the doctor last Thursday and was prescribed antivirals. To be honest, the antiviral meds are worse than the shingles! I have not been able to eat properly for two days (loss of appetite and nausea) and have been suffering from the worst diarrhea that I have ever had. Starting to feel a little bit better now, rash isn’t quite as sensitive and seems to have stopped spreading. Stomach is a little more settled, I’ve managed to eat a couple of slices of toast, but the bottom is still falling out of my world, so to speak. Still, only three more days of five antiviral tablets per day and then I am hoping to be able to eat and poop normally!
Don’t know how long it will take for the rash to fade completely, but the doctor told me that it would be sensitive for a couple of months and to avoid getting too much sun!

I had shingles back in May, rash across my back and chest on my right hand side, got to the doctors pretty quickly and was prescribed anti-virals. The rash went quite quickly but the pain was horrific, felt like someone was twisting a screw between my ribs.
I still have a patch of skin that has no feeling in it at all, and the general area still tingles, feels like pins and needles and itches like crazy. Not something I would wish on anyone.

Wife had shingles frown

We booked a doctors appointment but she couldn't get dressed so got in car and went in her nightie and I told reception that she was too ill to get out of the car.

The Doctor was really pissed that he had to perform a consultation in the car park.

He prescribed liquid morphine.

Wife only used a very little amount and I was tempted to try it smile

I’m a bit better tonight. May have been the co codamol and I forced two beers as it’s Hogmanay.
I’m also getting used to nerve pain as seeing orthopaedic surgeon for disc pressing on nerves to left arm for past few months. Same side as the shingles.
The rash is still horrible feels like being scalded constantly then an occasional shock or cattle prod.
Lymph nodes on right a lot better but left side is gubbed. Lumpy and sore when moving or touched.
Won’t be seeing the bells as I’m off to bed.
Thanks for the feedback as I thought I was being a big wet blanket.

When I got the prescription filled the chemist didn’t have enough tablets to fill my prescription. I took the 3 tablets they had in stock and returned later the same day to collect the remainder. When they handed me the box, I opened it in front of her and asked where the leaflet was? Fortunately, she managed to get me a photocopy which I read carefully. Sadly, diarrhea is mentioned as one of the most common side-effects. I can testify that it has been pretty biblical! I am really looking forward to completing the course of tablets and returning to full fart confidence!biglaugh
