On Thursday I had an MRI on my pancreas, the doc is keeping tabs on it as there is something on it.

During the scan everytime the machine made the loud buzz, I got a very strange sensation in my forehead. Almost like a vertical vein pulsing aobut 2cm in length, or being hit on the forehead by a teaspoon quite hard. Just lasted for the duration of the buzz say half a second. My head was in the machine.

I told the medics and they dismissed me as though I was a loon.

Today I noticed I have a Harry Potter mark on my forehead 2mm wide and 1cm long, in a straight line. It is quite red, but doesn't photograph well.

So odd, I am not aware of any metal in my forehead and my wife keeps saying I must have scratched myself but don't remember doing this.

Anyone got any ideas?

Dunno, but I hope the MRI works out well for you.

Do you know anyone with a metal detector?

That is very nice of you, thanks. I went for an MRI about something unrelated and they pulled this up about my pancreas. It got put to a committee of consultants and they requested another scan after 3 months. My consultant said this often happens, and not to worry. I feel quite chilled at the moment.

Hmm not sure if you are serious :-) I have had MRI's before and not had this happen.

Ever done any metal grinding? It only needs to be a splinter. You say you've had these scans before without issue - different scanners have different characteristics. Some brands are more prone to inducing currents than others. Even having the same scan on the exact same scanner, minor changes in scan planning can make a difference as your position will be different relative to the machine.

A less likely cause is sweat. MRI can induce a current in sweat on the skin. It's why there's a fan to blow air over you the whole time, and air conditioning to limit humidity in the room.

What sets off the metal detector first... the lead in your arse, or the st in your brains?

I had an MRI on a knee injury a couple of years ago. ‘‘Twas no problem initially, however after a while it became really quite painful, like a hot, burning sensation. I was really gritting my teeth to cope by the end. Of course, it could’ve been the result of trying to stay still with an injured knee, but it was well supported and otherwise comfortable. All rather strange.

They can cause muscle twitching too, had this when I had my knee scanned recently, very odd feeling.

Ever had any blank periods of time followed by a strangely sore bottom?

I had to push the emergency button half way though my recent mri scan for them to stop , desperate for a pee , held on as long as I could , they were very good about it too be fair , should of pushed button earlier as couldn’t get zip undone fast enough when got to the toilet
Sorry not very helpful for op , but might be of help
To someone worried about pushing the emergency stop , for something that seems as trivial as needing a pee

I’ve had a lot ( 10+) of them but still dislike the feeling of when they inject the contrast dye into you mid way through - always feels to me like I’m bleeding from the arm.
My wife had to have an MRI the other day for the first time.
She got very claustrophobic not helped by imagining the control room had been taken over by zombies !
She said she was very close to pressing the emergency button.
