The OH is wanting to get Invisalign but, being someone who suffers from anxiety, is pretty apprehensive. Can anyone answer the following?

  • Did you have any issues? What were they?
  • Did it cause gag reflex?
  • What do you wish you’d have known beforehand?
  • Was there any pain at any point during or after treatment?
  • Do you regret having Invisalign?
She's already had a consultation and paid a fee for an examination prior to treatment, however, she's having last minute nerves!

Sorry PH keeps throwing away my reply!

In short, had it fifteen years ago - no issues, no pain.

Due to my teeth positioning I could only have it on the upper teeth - lowers were trad braces.

Only slightly unpleasant part was the impressions right at the beginning - the squishy plasticine stuff they press onto your teeth - but no different to getting crowns etc

No regrets at all. (Trad braces are much worse!)

Thanks. The OH is just having the upper ones done too. She spoke to a few different places and most wanted to charge for top and bottom even if you only wanted top doing!

My dentist keeps giving me the hard sell about this, I'm not too fussed especially given the cost (£4k). I can't really be arsed with the faff of it all too, but I'm interested in other peoples experience

I've had Invisalign. Top and bottom. The top aligners did impact my gums at the back and cause some gum damage. I would have a brace instead if I could do it all again.

I had it - shell be fine.

I have a gag reflex already so taking the impresssions was interesting.
Note they also can use a handheld scanner if dentist has one.

Gums can be a bit sore when you wear it 247 (You have to for the first few months)
You can cut the invisaligns with a scissors to remove any contentious points (For me was always where i had a gap)

No issues.

Teeth straighter now. Just wear the last invisaligns overnight most nights to keep the teeth straight. If you dont for a few days, the teeth hurt as they want to move back!!!

Thanks again!

She's had the impressions done already, so that hurdle has been crossed.

Some more questions...
  • Is it a faff having to remove and replace them when you need to?
  • Are they secure or can they fall out easily, or feel like they might?

No faff - they just push fit on and off.
When they’re on they don’t fall off your teeth at all. You can certainly talk, work, drink water etc.

Yes, I had both my top and bottom teeth fixed. I started in Abu Dhabi where they used a soft mould to understand the shape of my teeth. That was by far the worst bit as made me gag.

Wearing the braces was easy and fuss free. From memory, I think I had three fittings/checks done and many many sets made.

I continued when I got back to the UK. The English dentist used a hand held scanner to 3d model my teeth. It was a much better experience.

In short, it was worth the time and money and was a relatively easy process.

As per the last poster, same for me, too. Easy to drink, speak etc. They are easy to fit, remove quickly too.

My wife had it (about 8 years ago I think). We were told it would cost £3.5k if everything went well but as much as £4.5k as a worst case scenario. Guess how much it cost biggrin

I have to say there were lots of visits, checkups, lots of care/after care, I couldn't fault the Dentist at all. About a year after the treatment had completed the aligners broke and these were replaced FOC.

It's a lot of money but my OH feels a lot better for having it done.

i had clearcorrect a rival so similar process/technology. Really happy with results as my top arch had collapsed on one side and lower front teeth were rotated. They clip in tight and can ache, no gagging, bit of a faff to take out to eat/wash.

For me took alot longer than anticipated and needed a rescan, more liners. They "ache" when you change to a new set so would occasionally take a pain killer.

Make sure the risk of "black trianges" is discussed. And she will need to wear the final retainers for life - they will drift if you dont. They may wear out esp if she grinds but you can get a new set every few years, mine lasted 3 years, i wear 100% every night and i grind.
