On my recent phone consultation after a mri scan ( prostrate ) the consultant said 3 years previously on my initial mri they’d noticed a small cyst on my kidney , on this mri scan they noted this had got larger & believed it could possibly be a complex cyst . I’ve since had a ct scan & im now waiting to speak to consultant ( next fri ) about what the course of action will be
I’m confused though as I was taken into hospital in March with what after a ultra sound scan was seen too be kidney stones ( described as gravel ) , there was no mention of a cyst / complex , I was booked for operation , consultation with consultant who never mentioned a cyst / complex .
Would a ultra sound not of shown a complex cyst , is it possible it’s changed from a cyst to a complex cyst between March & now ? Thankyou

All of this is for your urologist, unless there's a urologist here to comment, or a sonographer.

Had consultation , they believe it could be a complex cyst , hasn’t moved outside kidney , will have a biopsy in new year , then if confirmed as cancerous , will remove half of kidney
Lot to take in so may have some details slightly wrong , very nice / helpful chap
It’s not good having prostrate cancer , but without the regular mri scans you have I doubt this issue would of been picked up , so one positive of it

Thought I’d update just in case any one has to have a kidney biopsy ( I was dreading it as didn’t fare very well at all with earlier biopsy’s ( prostrate ) , with the lady doing first one saying anymore from you I’m taking you down the theatre & putting you to sleep ( apparently I couldn’t feel any pain , but I certainly could , 2 nd one I went to sleep & was fine , but had the worst 2 weeks of my life following , sleeping on bathroom floor for 2 week , never felt pain like it , as you’d lie down you needed to get back up to go again , if we’d of had a full size bathroom I’d of seriously jumped out of it , told them if I needed another biopsy just take it away as I couldn’t go through another
So onto another biopsy & I wasn’t settled at all , bp high. Etc , so did the normal checks , bp / temp then left for theatre, got down and everyone was lovely ( maybe see the fear in my face , explained a lot of it but I wasn’t taking it in , other than they maybe able to do it under ultra sound , not cat scan , told to lie face down & lovely nurse said if I wasn’t clinching my fists so tightly I could of held her hands , but she didn’t want her fingers breaking !! I then caught sight of what looked liked a foot long needle , the fear got worse
Then I led there waiting for the worst & then they said get ready for click , 3 biopsies later done , no pain , nothing
Back on ward , 1 he led on back , 2 hours sat up , 1 hr hr getting dressed etc , what was I bothered about
So if you need a kidney biopsy ( maybe complex cyst ) it’s fine , nothing to worry about ,

Thought I’d update , the original cyst from 3 yrs ago ( noted on prostrate mr1 ) that 3 yrs later was described as a complex cyst ( another prostrate mri scan , is now a described as a tumour , seems treatable with a section of my kidney being removed
Only reason I posted is if you ever get told you’ve a cyst on kidney etc I’d push for regular mri / cat scans , without those regular prostrate mri scans I / we would of never been any the wiser what was developing on one of my kidneys , if I’d not of had prostrate cancer & all the checks , mri mainly the outcome could of been bleak
So keep an eye on any cysts .

Thankyou , yes all seems treatable which is the main thing , I was fine with cyst / complex cyst , but the mention of tumour has shaken me a bit ( hard to believe a small cyst can become a tumour , I think also seeing it before you in a picture also hits home a bit more .
But I’m lucky as if it wasn’t for prostrate mri,s we wouldn’t of been aware of it
Thanks again
