Hi all,

My oldest son was four a few weeks ago and is currently in full time nursery in a school setting and we believe he has ADHD. In fact, having spoken to his teacher this morning it's pretty definite really.

He's exhibited all sorts of behaviours and symptoms over the last few years, some more defined than others, but I guess being in the routine school setting and especially some recent events have made it more apparent.

He can't stay still, his Christmas play for example had 70+ kids and he was the only one bobbing and spinning and rolling about etc (he enjoyed it though). He is hypersensitive to various things, won't do messy play at all, can't stand a drop of water on him, hates clothes labels and wonky socks. He interrupts conversation constantly and can't seem to play on his own.

You get the idea. He's wonderful though and I genuinely couldn't love him more.

What I'd like though are thoughts, stories, tips from anyone who has been there with their own children. Or indeed if you're an ADHD adult tell me how you dealt with it, what are the upsides, did you make a success of life?

The first things you read about the condition can be quite depressing. It affects education, they won't socialise properly, at risk of being outcast etc. it's quite grim when you're trying to picture your child's future.

So if love to know what we can do to help him, what positives we can hope for and so on. We've spent 3 1/2 years looking for an answer to what is going on with him and I found it quite emotional when his teacher basically confirmed all our suspicions today. Relief and then a lot of worry followed so here I am venting on PH because it's usually the best place for it.

The missus has an 11 year old hes currently been diagnosed with ADHD and Autism. He stands out like a sore thumb if you put him in a room with other kids his age.

I first met him when he was 6, at kickboxing lessons, all the kids lined up standing still and he was spinning and dancing. He cant sit still, if were watching tv he can often be found upside down lying off the couch etc.

My missus has actually started taking her ADHD medication this week, quite a low dose but I can instantly see a difference in her. The issue we are coming up against is the 11 year olds dad (who I suspect has ADHD and possibly Autism as well) he objects says there is nothing wrong with him.
