Having a shower yesterday and I turned my arm over and go WTF as my whole underarm was dark purple.

I've not done anything obvious to hurt it, only thing I can think of is a few days ago I was shifting a desk in the office.

It's a bit tender right near my elbow but nothing major and I can move it without pain. Doesn't seem to be getting worse.

I'm thinking I've torn something but seems odd with no loss of motion. I'm at the docs on Tuesday for something else so will mention it then.

Slightly gross pic below

Is that not internal bleeding?

I’d be going to A&E if that were me!

I pulled a muscle playing football a year or two ago and my leg went like that, it was fine after a few weeks. I shouldn’t have been playing, far too old now!

When I was i my 20's I developed idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. It required rapid treatment..

For example a knock to the head would've killed me and I was flying Hawks at RAF Valley in training. I was taken to hospital and not allowed to move until platelets were injected. I was covered in bruises and the treatment involved something they give to pregnant women which had a side effect of increasing your platelet count.

All in all it took about a year to sort out. See a doctor NOW PLEASE! and good luck.

I've just seen the pictures and my bruising was way less than that. Go to hospital now please.

Yes same here, but was on my arm, after a day of moving heavy stuff with muscles that I never use and probably ruptured a small blood vessel. Went all purple and yellow like a bad bruise, but wasn't painful and disappeared after a week or so.

If that was bad internal bleeding I think you'd know about it from the pain. As it's not painful, personally if it were me I'd leave it to heal itself. Make sure you get plenty of nutrients and vitamins in your food.

From NHS :

"In mild cases of internal bleeding, treatment typically involves rest and symptom control.

Rest gives your body time to heal while it reabsorbs the blood and the inflammation decreases."

I had some blood taken (by a doctor) who managed to go through the other side of the vein with the needle. My arm looked pretty similar to that. Just went away with time, although it did itch like merry hell for a few days.

I had to go for an X-ray and on taking my shirt off at the hospital the nurse called her mates in to look at the bruise.

Get someone to take you to A&E right now. Not in five minutes, not tomorrow. Now.

A few years back I tried water skiing. I ended up doing an involuntary splits. Hurt like hell. I managed to tear blood vessels around my crotch. My meat and two veg turned into a aubergine and two plums! Took two or three weeks for it to go back to normal. I didn’t impede me but looked very odd.

In the OP’s case I would still be going to A&E, to be safe.

I was paying a friend of mine at racketball (a bit like squash) who is a doctor and he pulled a muscle in his upper leg, he didn't think much of it and took a couple of weeks off as it was a bit sore. When he came back he had a bruise like that on the back of his leg even after a couple of weeks but he was OK to play. Not saying that is what you have but it might be, but it is still worth asking a doctor.

I dunno where you are but we have walk in centres. A sort of one shop below A+E.

Please go to one of those or if not an A+E dept.
I don't want to go into this too much but a few months ago my brothers best mate was worried about something. He went into the Walk In Centre waited an hour and saw someone.
He was in hospital within 3 hours and is doing well now

This. We have walk in centres and they can be very quiet I’ve taken the kids a few times. Best to be safe than sorry. You would have thought a bruise like that you would be in pain. Very odd.

Right then fella. Usual caveat applies that if you're worried, get it checked out. But.....

About a year ago, a Friday night... I found this beauty

Had no recollection of having hit anything or having been bit. No pain, no tenderness. Did what every bloke does and hit Google. Within an hour, I'm sorting a playlist for my funeral.

Call 111 on Saturday. Send them the pic. They call back to say 'probably' nothing but have made an appointment with my GP on the Monday afternoon. So that's it then.

Monday morning I'm editing a film I shot on the Friday. I then say to myself..."you utter berk"! I'd spent most of the Friday using a gimble.... a heavy device used to smooth camera footage..... wedged into my belly for support! I'm surprised you can't see the maker's name in reverse on the bruise. Another look shows it to be subsiding.

By Tuesday, it'd almost gone.

So, yeah, can look horrendous but in the absence of other major symptoms, I'd say you're OK. But I refer you to my opening comment!
