My urine has been unusually dark for the past 6 years or so.

I drink at least 2 litres of water a day but it's never clear like it used to be.

Anyone else experienced the same and have any answers?

2 litres doesn't sound like a huge amount of water. I drink probably 3 times that.

But 6 years, time to see a doctor

6 litres a day sounds like a lot.

Re dark urine, is there any pain at all?

You drink 6 litres of water a day?? That's the sort of volume that's recommended for a day hiking in desert conditions, so seems a lot. I agree though that 2l seems a little low.

6 litres of wine I should have said. :-)

6 is probably a little over. I have a 700ml bottle on my desk I refill probably 5 to 6 times so probably more like 3.5-4lt of water.

ETA - I am a lot bigger than most people so assume I need more?

Dark urine could be a multitude of things.
Mainly lack of water but it could just be down to you eating way to much beetroot for instance.

With out more details we cant help. Go see your GP if your worried. They will get you to give a sample(piss in a test tube behind the curtain) and test it to see if theres anything to report.

Cheers all.

No pain typically, but now you mention it, maybe a few times a year there is a burning sensation.

The colour is anything from radioactive to an amber beer to a deep yellow.

I'm not concerned but I'll see the GP when I get a chance. Will also up the water intake a little.

Are you taking B12 supplements?

You don’t say if you’re on any medication - e.g Statins.

Either way, Dark Urine is a great name for a band smile

Excessive vitamins can cause very strong colour in the urine.

No medication and no vitamins or supplements.

Slightly elevated blood pressure and my sleep isn't as good as it used to be but I'm putting that one down to getting older.

For my weight and height 183 and 81kg my Garmin sports watch calculates I need 2.8 litres a day plus replacing whatever I loose exercising which is roughly conservatively 500mls for 30mins running or 60mins of cycling. There is some fluid in your meals.

IANA Doctor but I guess you’re not getting enough fluid intake. No harm in upping your fluid intake for a while and seeing what happens. You might find your hunger reducing and/or concentration increasing for examples.

What are the guidelines for general fluid intake?

No formal guidelines, just preferences. Some spit, some swallow.

You said 'Dark' urine. Just get a pee test at the docs, if you've had it 6 yrs a little while longer ain't gonna matter. Staying hydrated currently shouldn't be a problem, it's hardly the middle of summer out there.
Here's the NHS guide to 'pee' colours. Oddly, on staying hydrated, they say 6-8 'mugs' a day. I suppose that depends on the size of your 'mug' (cup, not face!).

Well, the Dr thinks my urine looks ok.

In other news, my blood pressure is 166/100 and I've been referred for an MRI (suspected pulsatile tinnitus) and blood tests.
