One of my sons has got a lisp. Just over four, started at school this September. Otherwise bright and talkative but pronounces S as TH. The learning to read and him sounding out words has made me notice it more!
Any similar experiences? Have kids grown out of it or has it persisted? Thinking of looking for a speech therapist.

Our youngest had a similar lisp.
She’s 21 now.
It’s still there, but less pronounced.

Some people don’t lose their lisp. BBC US politics reporter (Sarah something?) is middle aged with a lisp.

I don’t think it’s something that has to be fixed.

I had a lisp when younger and grew out of it by my teens.

Do not recall having any intervention for it either

I had a lisp and a few mumbled noises I could say clearly. I’m 41 now but remember being taken to a speech therapist when I was very young to do word exercises. I was just a lazy talker and it stopped happening pretty soon after from what my Mum said.

You want to ask the school about speech and language therapy.
Lots of schools have a trained person who can run interventions with the child.

Our boy had SALT for a year when he had a problem called Fronting and they gave him exercises that fixed it pretty quickly.

If the school won’t do it, you can go private. My niece has had private Speech Therapy for years as she had a bit more of a speech issue and that is also pretty much fixed now.

I’m 50 now and developed a lisp at primary school. I was given speech therapy lessons and they must have worked. It’s something that I had almost forgotten about until I read this thread; lots of one to ones looking at pictures and pronouncing words…I seem to remember there were a lot of pictures of snakes involved!

I’m sure there will be support available.
