Just about to sign up to get my teeth sorted. Has anyone had experiences of Invisalign or should I just trot off to Turkey smile

My partner just finished her treatment. Said it's the best thing she ever did, her lower row was very crooked at the front. Sorted in 2 years at a cost of about £6k. Prices vary enormously depending on where you live.
Due to a mouth problem, I was going to do the same earlier this year but I spent the £3k on a car instead biggrin
I may still go ahead with it.

Good to hear. The only thing putting me off is I have receding gums that can make my teeth quite sensitive.

there are alternatives....
maybe worth talking to your dentist / orthodontist about.

My son was adamant he wanted them - £3.5k and a lot of 'looking after'.

Different for an adult - more likely to do the necessary maintenance whilst they relign your teeth.

I've spoken to my dentist and he said I could go down the fixed braces route. I like the idea of being able to take the Invisalign out for the night when I go out eating/drinking. My wife is 3/4 through her Invisalign and I do realise the chew she has cleaning them all the time after food.

I had clearcorrect (invisalign rival) and resut was good but took longer than expected. Fixed would have had a better, more precise outcome with more cost but everyone is different.

Also google "black triangles" - if youve triangle rather than rectangle shaped teeth and/or gum recession, you could end up with spaces between teeth which might look worse than the current issue your trying to fix.

I had it not so long ago and I’d highly recommend it. My teeth weren’t great, but luckily only needed 13 trays initially, then I had a further 6 when they were rescanned. I needed 5/6 visits to have gaps made between my teeth with this abrasive wire stuff so my teeth could pass each other (this was all factored in at the start once the scans were done and adjustments made) and I had 20 or so of the little wedges stuck to my teeth, which helps the trays move your teeth faster and more accurately. Although they’re cheaper, you won’t get any of that with the likes of smile direct etc. so it’s very much a case of you get what you pay for.

I wanted Invisalign over braces because I actually had braces as a kid and I absolutely hated them, so clear aligners were far more preferable. That said they still hurt a lot on the first few days of each tray, and they take a lot of getting used to. They are good if you want to diet, or cut down on stuff like coffee, because you can’t be arsed to keep taking them off and having to brush your teeth every time!

Regarding the comment about black triangles, once my treatments had finished I had some composite bonding to even some teeth up and make them a bit bigger so they looked even better, they still look totally natural but just more in proportion. It’s worth discussing that if you’re worried about gaps etc. and it something you can always do afterwards anyway. Mine was factored into my original Invisalign treatment plan, because the initial scan would’ve given me a large gap on my front teeth, so instead a gap was created next to another teeth and that was made larger with bonding.

2 1/2 years in, they are very painful, but my teeth are/were v crooked, cost was 7k cad, got 1/2 back from work health plan, its for my future mouth health, as I don't have any fillings, but may have encountered issues later in life (51 now).

One of my teeth has caused the trays to buckle on 2 separate occasions, something my orthodontist has never seen before!

My daughter will kill me but this is our result. NHS wanted to take 1 year before first orthodontist appointment and the dentist suggested she start to remove teeth!!. Went private and the orthodontist worked wonders with no teeth removed, some Invisalign’s and a retainer….£5k with various X-rays, retainers, whitening and unlimited consultations The bottom image wasnt the final result either…. Much better now. Teenager and promised her I’d get them sorted! Second daughter wants a go now!

I wouldn’t rule out braces. I have just finished treatment with braces ( the white ones rather than metal ones) having opted for that over Invisalign. Simply put I didn’t trust myself to be disciplined to keep the Invisalign in all of the time ie there would always be an excuse to remove them - work meeting; eating, nights out etc.

So I went for fixed braces on top and bottom teeth and 6 months later they are both off and all teeth straight (including one tooth out and the gap closed ). Braces will do the job quicker. Bar not eating crunchy stuff I have had no problems with them at all.

Today is the end of my Invisalign treatment, having had 24 sets, changed weekly. It’s cost 4k for top and bottom trays, and has exceeded my expectations. I have had no pain and got used to wearing them quickly. I thought it might be a problem having to take them out every time you eat, but quickly got used to it. None of my friends have noticed them in, and we’re surprised when I revealed all! Teeth now look great, wife very happy. Just need to be whitened now which was included in the price. Im 57 and felt I would try and make the best of what I have before it all falls apart ! I would highly recommend them.

I'm currently going through it.

Had some highs and lows with it, but overall I am very happy with it.

Had to spend £600 on dental work before it (had a tooth chipped and another cracked in a fight) and 1 filling required.

Invisalign cost me c~£4000. As many refinements as wanted/required. Airflow and adjustments such as filing etc at the end included, as well as 6 months worth of teeth whitening and a final life long retainer.
First set of aligners were 15 in total. 10 initially and some lower teeth filing to get my final 5. They say 1 per week but I was advised to do every 10 days, so I dutifully followed. I got to week 13 and one single solitary tooth (the tooth I actually really wanted fixing) was refusing to move anymore. The tooth was hooked behind my 2 front teeth and I was told it would be very stubborn to move. I accepted it and I got 8 more aligners as a remedy.

Fast forward 60 days and I am currently waiting for my new aligners to show up after 6 again failed to move the problem tooth. Im receiving a further 10 for my troubles.

Whilst its irritating to a point, I've paid for it, I want them perfect, I aren't in a rush, and a problem tooth is a problem tooth, they cant guarantee times taken to move your mouth!

I believe I need one final part of my front tooth filing to allow the problem tooth to slot in to place, I've suggested it to them on the last scan, so I wait until thursday to find out the result.

All in all, I give it an 8/10 so far.
Its a nightmare trying to get an appointment at my location due to the invisalign working hours and my working hours. Thats redundant.
Pricing is pretty high, but they do offer finance I believe if you need it. Price obviously depends on how much you value your smile. I for one hated my problem tooth!

be interested to see what the final after care treatment is like from them but thats yet to be seen.

Id say go for it!

As a final: Only thing I will mention.
The first 3 retainers I had absolutely SPLITTING headaches like ive never experienced before. I thought I had a brain tumour at one point because I couldnt focus on anything. Turns out moving all of your teeth by force after theyve spent years chilling safely in their positions actually does cause some discomfort. After the 3 aligners I guess my teeth were just kind of "used to it" and just got on with their lives moving about.

If you go ahead, id say prepare for a bit of initial pain!

My girlfriend has recently completed hers but with Smile Direct, after being put off by the costs of Invisalign.

To say she's happy is an understatement - they have worked absolute wonders for the shape of her teeth, both top and bottom and she now has perfectly straight teeth.

I was a bit concerned with her going for the "cheaper" option, and I don't think they're for everyone to be honest (in that, if you have very misaligned teeth to start with then I can well see ongoing dental input to be an absolute must) but if your teeth aren't that bad to start with, they're definitely worth considering.
