So I really struggle with the noise of someone chewing, or eating noisily in my vicinity. It totally triggers me.

I have a colleague who’s an utter Neanderthal, he eats his lunch like a complete pig and then chews gum noisily all afternoon. Same st every single day, man is obsessed with his eating routine.

I had to remove myself from the office earlier as my cursing was becoming louder and I almost lost my st, I couldn’t focus on anything but his chewing!

I know it’s a first world problem, but does anyone else get this? If not, what triggers you?

Snoring is another one….. hehe

It would annoy me but if something triggers you then the issue lies with you. Maybe sneak out some hypnosis and other counselling. If you are losing it then it’s a control issue or something like anxiety.

Yes I do have MH issues so that probably makes it worse! I know it’s irrational….

That’s it, exactly that! Never knew it was a thing, I’ll read up on it as maybe there are some tips on how to cope with it…

I'm convinced it explains a lot with me. My reactions to some noises is irrational, but the 'reasonable' side of me asks, 'but why can't they just be more aware?'

It would annoy me but what would annoy me more is the blokes total lack of self awareness and him having no consideration for others.

Oh I totally think that as well, that’s just as annoying!

I've got to listen to brown noise or music on the bus. Tiktok drives me fking crazy. 5-10 seconds x1000 swipes of utter nonsense. Everything made 10 times worse when you look round and see it's an adult!

It doesn't 'trigger' you, it annoys you. The word 'trigger' refers to a word or sight that brings back a memory of a traumatic event that a person may not have fully emotionally recovered from and the 'discomfort', if that's the right word, returns.

Yes, it matters. smile

Suffer with this terribly.

As an example, I’ve spent the last few years walking down to the local Pret in the morning for a coffee or two while doing morning emails. It’s a busy one and they have to call/shout out peoples orders for collection. Just recently, a woman has started whose voice and precise frequency absolutely does my head in.... I can’t go there any more hehe

The kids. Lol

Snoring yes but after years of experimenting I’ve found decent ear plugs so I can’t hear that or the kids smile

Surely you just ask you boss to move to the other side of the office if it’s causing you do much anguish? I just don’t understand why people just don’t talk.

Yes I have this a lot. My wife when she eats soup or cereal the spoon always clangs against her teeth, goes right through me.

In my old office there was this odd guy who used to stir his cup of tea continuously for a about 2 minutes, smacking the mug. He disappeared one day, reports of someone matching my description carrying a shovel and roll of carpet into the woods were unrelated.

Think it can also be related to autism

Noise cancelling headphones.

I don't react as you do but the sound of "keyboard clicks" on people's phones is one that gets me.

I am absolutely the same and it's getting worse. I can't stand the noise of people eating . I can't even tolerate watching them eat on the TV now.
Then there is crisp eating ,oh my goodness I have to leave the room .

Sadly I have no option to move/relocate my desk due to the nature of the business I’m in. We are a small team who have to sit in close proximity.

Headphones are in today. Failing that I’ll just go out when he starts eating…

Interesting to see I’m not alone in this!

Yep, same as you. Poor Mrs UTH gets a lot of scowls from me when she eats anything on the sofa when her mouth is only a foot away from my ear.

I just remembered that after yesterday’s chewing incident, I was driving home and actually shouting, swearing and cussing him about it censored

This is clearly not normal.

We are only human, sometimes things that other humans do can really rattle our cage, for you it's others noisily eating, I don't
think that is overly unusual, I'm the same and know others who can't stand it either.

One of the worst ones for me is the adverts for chocolate covered ice lollies, like Magnums, the sight of the close up mouth
biting into it and that fucensoredg cracking noise riles me like nothing else, it's so bad if I'm watching TV as soon as it's time for more
adverts I switch the thing off for 5 minutes.
