48 hour fasting - autophagy
Discussion
Hi all.
Tried the odd fasting here and then but recently read up on autophagy. Anyone here tried this ? Seen / felt any benefits ? Like the idea of how it clears away the old crap cells.
Plan to drink water, sleep more and still train down the gym although probably not as hard as normal. Would be good to loose a bit of belly fat too.
What's the group's experience on this ?

I saw somewhere that it can take up to 12 months to have a meaningful change-over in your cells. Obviously cells are being replaced all the time and in my case I'm undertaking a semi-permanent (for 12 months anyway) 16:8 time restricted eating diet to try and get rid of all my insulin resistant cells and so reduce my high blood glucose readings. I did a lot of research before taking this path and understood that it might take all of 12 months to make any real difference to my cells.

I did a couple of 48hr fasts. I say ‘48 hours’ but I found it easier to have a last supper at 5pm on day 1 and then have a late breakfast at 9am on day 3, so it was more like 40hrs. Pretty sure I read somewhere that they’re rapidly diminishing returns beyond 36hrs, with regards to autophogy at least.
In any case, I was buzzing by day 3 and felt great. I’ve no idea whether there were or are any long term benefits but I could well believe it.
However, I get the feeling that a lot of people start fasting at the same time as cleaning up their diet and generally being healthier. They then ascribe feeling better and healthier to whichever part of their new-found lifestyle they feel indoctrinated into. I did keto and low carb and felt amazing; carbs were now the enemy and to be avoided at all costs! Then I reintroduced good quality carbs like sweet potatoes and rice and felt just as good, if not better. Turns out carbs aren’t the enemy and it’s just processed, refined junk that is! Anyway, I digress, I enjoyed fasting!

Well, 3 months into my time restricted eating and I've just had my blood test results. My triglycerides and cholesterol are all in the normal range and my HbA1c results say i'm no longer in the diabetic range. Going to continue until the 12 months are up and see what improvements on the already good results there are.
I'm going to increase my calorie intake a bit as I've lost a little bit more weight than I wanted and my jeans are baggy around the a*rse (had to buy some new skinny ones today). My weight 3 months ago when i started the eating regime was 76-77kg and am now 64 kg and lost 2 kg in the last 2 weeks, my target weight was 66 kg.

I have done 24 hours fasts 1-3 days per week over the last year I think. It's a blur. I forget how long!
Anyway, I'll be happily doing this once a week to counter the fact that I love food.
Overall, I've lost maybe 10kg and can fit into trousers that I wore when I graduated (early 90s!). Consequently, the trousers I've worn for the last 10 years are a bit baggy around the waist.
I look lean but in a good way - it appears that fasting has binned the visceral fat around my abdominal area. I just appear leaner. Muscle loss isn't noticeable. (Mind you, I wasn't massive before.)
Bottom line is that I look in good shape.
Also, it's the easiest diet plan to follow. Just stop eating. Don't eat a single thing. No need to track macros, avoid certain types of food, etc etc. Eat burgers and beer if you want... but not during the 24 hour fast. Use it to break your fast. So basically you can say you eat burgers and drink beer for breakfast (even if it is at 9pm).
