Ahhh wont stop bleeding!
Discussion
So had a big MTB crash yesterday! basically full trail speed, over the bars, landed on a steep rocky hill
Biggest injury was a rock pierced into my shin down to the bone, with no skin left around 1cm squared!
It was hard to take a good photo, but thats the bone you can see!
After getting home, went to local minor injuries who put a bandage on it, and sent me to gloucester A&E.
Was there for 5 hours!(and £10.50 of parking!) They Xray'd it, had several nurses and a doc prod and play with it, tried strips, and superglue which didn't really work as there was no skin. Didn't want to stitch it as skin too thin. They finally agreed sticky strips and a tube of superglue was the best they could do, shoved a large plaster on and told me to get it re-dressed by my GP practice in a few days.
Firstly with all the technology out there, why is there no "skin patch" for these scenarios?
It still seems to be bleeding, as the plaster is getting more red as the day goes on and is now dripping out the bottom!
Am booked in with the GP Nurse tomorrow afternoon to have the plaster changed, but have a feeling it will need a little more as its still bleeding?
What do we think?
Oh and i could barely move this morning, my whole body is covered in bruises and grazes at least i didn't brake any bones!

As long as A&E cleaned it out properly, you’ll be fine with just replacing the dressings, but if it is actively bleeding (fresh blood oozing), go back to A&E as it might need cauterising to repair blood vessels.
Did A&E ask if you were up to date with tetanus toxoid and give you a booster shot?

If you have a friendly Chinese take away near you pop in there and ask if they can sort you out with a bottle of Yunnan Baiyao, chuck that in the wound and give it 30 minutes (and don't take the red pill that's in there!).
I have no idea what's in it but it's amazing at clotting stuff that just won't stop bleeding.

There is such a thing as a skin patch it is called a flap / free flap…
the surgeon takes a slice / flap of skin with or without blood supply as needed, from somewhere else and uses it to fill the gap - bit they take it from heals / your wound heals
Presumably here though they feel that it will heal without that… so no need to chop up more of you… and in the scheme of things that isn’t as serious as eg a wound from a car accident etc
Hope it heals soon!

Yuk, I did the same at university. I thought it a good idea to walk on some concrete planks that were set at 2' intervals above some large pipes. Down I went and the edge of a plank took a bite out of my shin just like yours. I could move the skin around and but white bit (bone) at the centre of the hole stayed put.......I'm not good with blood and collapsed later that day. It took ages to heal, no special bandage (this was 1984). I remember that weeks later, just when I thought the worst was over, it swelled up impressively one afternoon and then burst all down my leg. Still have a scar 40 years on, but no permanent effects other than my squeamishness.
That's a pre-tibial laceration, the hardest skin in the body to heal.
Keep a close eye on it, don't put lotions and potions on it that aren't from a chemist.
The sliced skin patch that someone mentioned is a Split Skin Graft, not a flap. Flaps are something else.
The plastic surgery reconstructive ladder has lots of simple things and some complex things to try.
Infection is your major enemy, nothing heals with infection.
If you are not winning this, and the bleeding will quickly stop with mild compression and elevation, the you will need the Plastics Dressing Clinic, not your GP.
Don't put gunk on this.
You won't need any of this page link, keep yours clean and eventually it will fill in, but here's interesting https://teachmesurgery.com/plastic-surgery/burns/s...

Not a single mention of the bike? Selfish....
Other than the bars/stem going out of alignment and a small scratch the bike seems perfect! Seems Nukeproof are indeed Nukeproof!The_Doc said:

Take you mind off the bleeding by starting a what MTB kneepad in the cycling section.
I was actually wearing knee pads! this happened about an inch below where the knee pad stopped!! But i suspect the knee pad saved my knee caps?Anyway the nurse changed the dressing yesterday, it was pretty wet and bloody underneath! and gave me another to replace it myself in a few days.
Its not as red today, but still seeping blood
But the pain in my stomach and shoulder take the pain away from the shin! As they have both gone rather purple/yellow!!

That takes me back to my youth and destroying my shins with aggressive bike pedals.
I always remember the blood being much thicker and cuts taking ages to heal, I have some good scars as a result.
None of this helps you very much but what you are experiencing seems pretty normal.
