Hi Guys - I know there is a wealth of knowledge on this forum and its helped me immensely to put my diabetes’s in remission.

Now cholesterol is like a mine field to me, and there is to much stuff in cholesterol like total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides to name a few. I did a check in my gym (Nuffield Health) this weekend with the following results. The total cholesterol is too high as its supposed to be below 5. I am on no medication for diabetes’s and none for cholesterol and I want to remain this way. Can someone please help me interpret my numbers and explain what they actually mean and how do I lower my Total Cholesterol (5.92)?

Chol 5.92 MMOL
LDL 4.00 MMOL
HDL 1.55 MMOL
TRIG 0.81 MMOL
NON-HDL 4.37 MMOL
CHOL/HDL 3.8 MMOL

Based on your medical history what does your GP recommend? My total cholesterol is 5.8 and no intervention is required (My QRISK2 score is 4.4% which may be a factor?).

It appears to me that whilst the ideal, public health recommended TC is less than 5.0 one size does not fit all and that figure alone is not an exact science.

Don't mind me asking but how was the check done at the Nuffield Health Gym? I'm a member at one in Hertfordshire but have never seen that sort of test available. I had a check at my GP at the end of May and found that my Tryglycerides were very high and HDL too low (I'm ow on Statins, which I always fought against taking). I do have T2 Diabetes but since May have taken it very seriously as my glucose levels were also very high compared to 6 months ago. I started a new diet regime with time restricted eating where food is consumed only in a 6 hour window (12:00 to 18:00) then nothing but water until the next day, I lost 9 kg very quickly but have now plateaued, it must have been all internal visceral fat as I'm tall and slim and have only gone down one notch on my belt and 1" on the waist size. My glucose levels seem to have gone down according to my CGM but the only way to really tell is by a blood test hence my question re Nuffield.

Ok so this test was done through Nuffield Health my gym, the personal trainer simply took a blood sample and processed this through his machine as I waited for 10 minutes the results appeared. My GP doesn’t know about these results. I have a Blood Test scheduled in November so I will wait for an official NHS one then. So, are these results terrible do they warrant a statin or can I work on these? How can I lower my total cholestreol at 5.92?

From the below I can see my triglycerides are low at 0.81 which is good I assume, but LDL is high at 4:00 which is not good.

Chol 5.92 MMOL
LDL 4.00 MMOL
HDL 1.55 MMOL
TRIG 0.81 MMOL
NON-HDL 4.37 MMOL
CHOL/HDL 3.8 MMOL

The information in this link tells you what and where the levels should be https://www.heartuk.org.uk/cholesterol/understandi... and replicate what the NHS test results for each component will show when you get your results in the NHS App.

But as ever they need interpreting by a professional not a weightlifter.
