I've only ever had health insurance via employers. You could claim however much and there was no price/increase.

However, I'm now considering taking out an individual policy.

Could anyone here with an individual policy give an idea how much their premium increased based on how much they claimed?

I'm concerned because if the renewal increases drastically during treatment, you can't switch insurer as they won't cover existing treatment, leaving you stuck with the original insurer.

Private health insurance is a business, the idea is they make money out of you not the other way round 🙂
Any serious health issue can easily exceed £100k so think long and hard before abandoning the NHS.

.
The idea is to make money overall, not out of specific individuals. Like all insurance, there are people who claim way more than they pay.

My ex wife and the two other directors of the company they set up about 12 years ago had health insurance. It was about £120 a month each.

She kept going on about how good it was and that I should get cover. I didn't.

Cut to 12 years later and private treatment for cancer and the cost hit over £1000 a month, each.

Stuck, can't move to another company without declaring and their quotes were more. They opted out in the end.

My latest job comes with health insurance. It's good and covers preexisting conditions and I've used it.

Not sure if it's because of that or my age but I appear to pay more tax as it's a BIK, than my colleagues.

My current Aviva cover is £140pcm for a family of 4, up from £130 last year, we have had 2 claims too.

We broker PMI so there are always deals to be had between the insurers.

Feel free to drop me a pm if you want one of my advisers to run you some quotes.

Just to add you can still switch mid treatment on many policies depending on the policy type and severity
