Mine tends to hover in the late forties early fifties, and today it’s telling me it’s 46, that’s during the day, dont wear the watch overnight.

I have been exercising quite a bit and lost some weight, still probably 20 or so pounds overweight though. Did a 5k run yesterday at a slow ish pace and it got to 156 (usually see up to 170 if I go for it) hour on the bike trainer the day before, weights session day before that and a half hour walk with the dog every day.

Am 52 and am on Thyroxine for hypothyroidism, dose for that was checked earlier this year and was ok, was thinking if losing weight dilutes it in some way it would raise my heart rate if anything ?

Feel fine, and I know a low resting rate is good but how low is too low ? Says 55 as I type this.

Been a quiet day and my heart tracking says, that apart from one instance at 3pm where it got to 90, it hasnt been over 68 all day.

Is this me getting fitter and a bit lighter so my heart isn’t needing to work as hard ? or should I get it checked out ? No symptoms to report just seems really low. It lists walking average and that has come down a lot since April when I kicked the diet and exercise up a gear.

The tables on the net list 50-57 for my age group as “Athlete”, they don’t list under 50 and “athlete”, well I am not that.

Watch seems ok, it matches the kit at the gym within 1 or 2 bpm.

I'd get that checked out, it seems low.

Dr blue lighted me to hospital when I went in for something else and she did a health check on me, did two HR checks with 2 machines, then emergency ECG, as it was 37 average.
Spent 48hrs in hospital, eventually discharged as fit and healthy.
If I'm fit it sits at about 40, if I'm being lazy for a few months it can get up to 45-50.

I now have it on record, that I have bradycardia. I'd get checked out, then it's on the record.

10 years younger but while I use the gym regularly, I wouldn't call myself an athlete. My RHR is average of 50, some days 48, some days 52/53. It's been like that as long as I can remember. Reading around it, that may just be your number.

How did you get diagnosed for hyperthyroidism? I've had blood tests but not sure if my Thyroid has been checked or not. Thyroid problems run in my mother's side of the family.

Brain fog, lethargy and various items that us chaps value highly, er, not working like they once did…at about 42.

Was checked for all sorts and got the usual loose weight blah blah blah, then got sent to an endocrinologist, having been sent to see a sexual psychologist type lady.

Anyway, that was ten years ago, the endocrinologist checked it all out, produced what I thought were rosary beads but were for measuring your balls biggrin apparently mine are pretty large (should buy an old TVR maybe ?), he said showed me his (on the Orchidometer as it’s called, not for real thankfully) and said that they are tiny “because I am Chinese and we tend to have small ones”, quite surreal.

Anyway, put me on thyroxine, was like the lights coming back on in my head, some days would be sat at my desk and zone out and wonder why I was there, hard to explain unless you have lived it, as people say I do that all day, and it’s not the same as daydreaming or even nodding off.

Get checked, seems we have a family history of it and also some weird blood type.

Checked my oxygen level on my watch , 97 to 99, so normal, ecg says it’s normal.

I know they arent medical devices and I am not a doctor but it’s impressive what a consumer device can do.

Think it’s being fairly fit and 232 pounds and now 212 and a bit fitter, so less demand and more capacity maybe ?

Resting HR varies from person to person, age fitness and health being just some factors, mine can get as low as 36 but that's after a very cold sea swim, mostly sits around the 40 mark, id say you don't seem to have anything to be concerned about, but I'm no dr!

My RHR varies considerably. Always taken mid-morning when I have been sat down for 10 minutes or so. In the past 3 years has regularly varied from low 60s to high 70s. A few times has been a little over 80.

I'm 76 & have heart problems (controlled with medication) & low kidney function.

I'm 56, Hypothyroid and 125 mcg of thyroxine per day. My resting is averaged at 55, if mine was as low as 46 i'd mention it to my GP pretty soon.

I'm 59 and on thyroxine.

My RHR is mid 50s. An overnight ECG recorded a low of 46 (investigating possible A-Fib). No one has raised any concerns about it.

Just sounds like it’s correlating with your increased fitness, which is to be expected and is perfectly normal.

It is, but it still qualifies as brachycardic, and whilst that might not be a problem in itself, if it's consistently under 50 then I'd get it checked out just to be sure.

Some low resting heart rates here.
When I was about 18 my HR was never lower than 60 and now at 60 it's anywhere between 60 and 80 according to a series of daily blood pressure tests I took recently .
I've never been overweight

Maybe I should get mine looked at then, it's consistently high 30s according to my Garmin.

It says 54 today, range is 54 to 73. Will mention it at my next GP appt, see what he thinks, have all the traces on my phone so can show them those.

As the driver of a Red Fiesta ST does that make me Tackycardick ?

Sorry !

Can I ask a question, how should a resting HR be taken, Sitting down? Standing? Or lying down?

My resting when I wake up in bed is usually in the early 60s, now in the office on the office chair all day I work in investment banking its usually between 70-80, I walk around the office 80 -95.

Obviously when I exercise it goes way higher. Having a resting HR of 50 seems to low for me (orginial poster), but maybe my readings are too high? I am 45 and slightly over weight but go gym 4 times a week.

I'm late 50s. Reasonably fit but overweight. In the winter when I run more I can get it down to 48.

In the summer 54/55

Tends to average out around 52 over the course of a year.

Mine has averaged 50 over the last month, in general a falling RHR and increasing HRV is a sign of increased fitness...although as others have mentioned, if its too low then it would not be a bad thing to get it checked out.
