Hi all, I wouldn't normally post personal stuff on here, but I'm seriously considering a hair transplant. Has anyone had it done and wouldn't mind sharing experiences or tips or advice?

Thanks all.

Do you have a budget in mind?

Most important thing - distance is NOT a consideration. Don't get sucked into the must be in the UK thing.

Cheers guys, budget not important, but time off work would be, so whilst Turkey etc is much cheaper, how many days off is it likely to incur.

I even see some who don't shave the head, that looks better for me

Hair transplants are not affected by air travel, so time off work isn't going to be affected regardless of location - that will more depend on when you're happy for people to see you, whether you can wear a hat for a few weeks etc.

Money no object I think Hasson Wong in Canada is usually regarded as the best, probably 30K.

If you do some negotiation or are flexible with timings, you'd be able to get around 2,000 grafts for that price at a good London clinic.

My advice as being follically challenged is to start by shaving down to #2 / #1 i would also start to look at micropigmentation as an alternative

You're putting geography ahead of quality of treatment. I'm not aware of any consistent London based surgeons putting out long lasting quality results.

A hair transplant is for life, and if it's messed up there's a very long hard and expensive road back.

There was a recent posting in Doctors.net asking for advice on hair transplants. I obviously can't C&P the thread.

The thread in general was sympathetic to the poster and the above name came up as a recommendation. Make of that what you will.

No I'm not. Patient safety is one of the main reasons why a UK resident would elect to get work done in the UK.

How many UK patients have you spoken to about their results?

You're the one making the suggestion, it's for you to justify it.

I've been an active member of a well known specialist forum for many years, interacting with UK patients, I know what I'm talking about.

How many hair transplant tourists visit London from abroad to have a procedure? Zero.

If they wanted to stay in Europe they'd probably visit Bisanga in Belgium or a couple of the Spanish ones.

You're thinking the NHS will sort out any problems from UK procedures? Laughable.

Don't think it's been mentioned yet, and I don't need them myself, but a couple of people who've had it done have told me that it's insanely painful?

Not in my experience, but everyone will be different. And if going cut price (Turkey) there must be a temptation for some of the clinics to cut back on the pain management drugs.

Research, research, research.

I seem to remember reading somewhere (may have been here) a guy in Portugal who is pretty “cost effective” and does excellent work, Ferriera or something?

A mate went to Harley street, they fked it up first time and had to redo it...now he's receding again about 5 years later.
